My own views are probably well known on here on whether FTR reps and Officials should do some time on the front line during their term of office (ie at least once between elections) but I thought I would make a poll so that those who don't want to voice an opinion can at least vote on their preferred option. I have tried to make it as unbiased as possible.

Full-time release for any reps does nothing to dispel the belief amongst people that those who choose to become reps are doing so for a cushy number. Whether that belief is justified or not is another question. But when a revision is brought in that moves the start time of everyone on a particular shift, so that they now finish another 60-90mins later in the heat of summer, while the rep that negotiated it sits in the union room with a cold drink, it all adds to the perception that it's easy for the rep to agree to accept something that doesn't directly affect them.

How many conduct code or disciplinary issues come up in a typical week that can possibly justify someone not doing any of the physical work that their contractual hours say they are supposed to do ? :hmmmm

I voted for reps to 'work at the coal face' (the last option)

Im a unit rep and can say you get very minimal time off duty to perform any tasks like conducts, attendance interviews etc. Its only Area and higher that get full time release.

as a local rep i get next to no release time, not even for resource meetings. im afraid the area reps hoover up all the release time. in my office we have 4 area reps and they all have full time release. enough said.
