No Access.....

Does RM have a company wide policy on access to properties with a controlled entry system OR is it just what each local DOM feels is appropriate?

This morning after 4 days of not being able to get into a building containing 6 flats on 3 floors. I managed to get in! Was just about to deliver to the top floor flat when 2 men came out. Mentioned to them the repeated problems I was having accessing the building.

To be honest I can't say I was surprised to get the reaction I did but it was like.... "Well, the trades is open until X" I say that its not possible for me to get to the building at that time. They say "well do this building first then!" I say sorry but there are 30 other controlled access buildings here and all that will do is mess up my route and just mean that another building has problems. "Not our fault your a postman and I we want our letters!" I say "I'm here every day, all I want is access to the building so I can deliver the mail. Not delivering it is a pain for me and means you having your mail delayed or ultimately returned as inaccessable please can you speak to the council or provide a key?" "Well, if our mail is delayed or sent back then I'm going to make and official complaint about YOU to Royal Mail"..... after that I shrugged... told them I've made you aware of the problem "I can't walk through locked doors..... your call!" they made a comment that I didn't catch but sounded rude to which I said "What-ever!"

There was a bit more to the conversation above but thats just the jist of it. I'm being reasonable there being like "F*uk you we're not doing anything.... YOU ring the council you stupid postman"

Got back to the office and DOM tells me that mail can't be sent back..... PERIOD as per the regulator he claims "Keep trying all week and deliver on a Saturday!" Its not 100% certain I can get in on a Saturday! but even so all because they can't be arsed? and its THEIR mail FFS!

Anyone got anything in writing about how to deal with this?

have had same prob but told by line manager if no access write post off as clear frame policy !!!

RM will not put up with insulting, rude or threatening behaviour towards its employees,(or so i am lead to believe by several posters around the callers office) i am sure they will bring about swift and decisive action to prevent these 2 ne'er-do-wells from having another opportunity to harangue you again by withdrawing their service. Seeing as you cant but put yourself in that situation again by attending that address, withdrawal of delivery to the entire block of apartments seems the only reasonable recourse.

bollox, endorsed 'no access' then either returned to office or back in the box. what would he expect you to do if it was boarded up,!! wait till someone moves in?

It's 3 days for inaccessible mail, if you can't get it delivered by then then sticker it and send it away.

i was told its 3 days,,,,i have about 14 time locked entrances through me walk,,,and same thing,,,i start on the 1st lot then i have 4 others later in the walk,,,,i was told by the d.o.m its 3 days then sticker it and send it back,,,,TILL after 3 days i told him again and he panicked and asked me to keep trying,,,i`d get earlier on lighter days LOL......then a new d.o.m said he`d get in touch with the housing authority and get the times extended,,,,guess what,,,yep..he never did.

Luckily 1 day after the clocks went forward the guy from the authority was resetting the door times,,,,i asked him if there was any chance to extend em,,,by an hour or so,,,and he did.

You are joking..... I have been threatened and called a f....... c.... incident reported to DOM he was apauled, not having his staff treated this way, leave it with me.....he did nothing . Locked in flats with 6 drug addicts trying to get their mail off me, incident reported..... management did very little, I wanted to suspend delivery to the low life but NO said my manager. Threatened to be f...... killed if I was on delivery the next day by same low life in front of witnesses on CCTV..... I informed police who came out and had the crack with them and did nothing .
Still I have to deliver to the scum and get abused on a daily basis. Those three incidents all because i will not hand out mail in the streets!!!!!

As regards no access to premises 3 days and then return to sender (after endorsing "no access" daily) is our DOMs policy.......

If the "Tradesman" button does not work, aren't we supposed to buzz each flat that has mail, giving them 10 seconds or so to respond? If no reply, "no access" endorsement, date/time/initials. If continuous 7 days go by without access, then the mail can be killed off?

But where does it say that in writing?
I have been told that if the customer complains to Postcomm (or its successor) the complaint would be upheld unless RM could prove it had made every possible effort to ensure access could be obtained.
Writing to the flat owners, trying to reschedule the delivery, writing to the building owners/factors etc etc.

2 Questions:
On day 1 I have 10 letters - no access.
On day 2 I have 10 + 10 letters - no access.
On day 3 I have 10+10+10 letters - no access.
How many do I sticker and return to sender?

On day 1 I have a packet as well. On returning to the DO I write a 739 card out for it.
Do I rip up the 739 card on day 3 and return the packet to sender as well?

Same problem in our office .... now we have ONE rule ... before 1 pm, if unable to get in ....kill off the mail. Simple as that.
Under " clear office " system ... we do not keep any mail on frame. It is customer and householder's responsibility to give postman access to deliver mail. Buzzer and Trade button not working .... return to sender or kill off. Its up to them to sort out entry for postman.
