l/w trolleys and Georoute

Trying to work out why my loops are so slow as 10 minutes slower than Georoute.
1/ round is slowed dramatically when you are pushing a l/w trolley and you have cars parked on pavements
2/ dustbins and recycling bin on paths on emptying days
3/having no clips for bags and bags slipping down and rubbing on wheels
4/having to keep deadwalking back to pick trolley up when you have ,for example 3 houses together
5/keeping trolley secure and in eyeshot
6/no shortcuts
When we 1st started p/l we was told the driver would finish their loop 1st and be able to do packets for the loop but its not working because the driver has about 10 to 12 packets to deliver for the loop and cannot get it done in the 5 minutes extra he has.
This then means he either has to be late for the walkers next bag or he cannot finish his packets and with our loops going along a straight road its impossible for the driver to return as we are getting further away all the time.
The other thing with the later starts is the amount of 739's we are writing out, I end up with bringing half our packets back and are writing out about 20 docket left cards on our busy packet days on wednesdays and thursdays and that is just the walking duty.

Don't forget acceleration and deceleration of the trolley, as well as that little thing called inertia, none of which RM's planners seem to believe exist - they think that we attain maximum walking speed a millisecond after we put mail through a letterbox.

I wouldn't trust it to plot my way to the toilet and back.
We had some of the top people in the country to help,we had full involvement from the union,we had full involvement with the duty holders,we had almost 13 months of careful planning....and it still churned out s**t.
They stood around,scratched their heads,tried again....more s**t....tried again...more etc.
s**t in..s**t out they say...you could put diamond into Georoute and you would still get s**t out.
It is as much use at designing delivery rounds as an Etch-a-Sketch.

That is exactly what our planner brought in to work today.
I assumed he had bought it for one of his kids on the way in.
Now I realise it is for him to use in a professional capacity.
Hope he lets me have a go.

So you're not a fan then? Well I never!

I think Georoute was tried and quickly dropped in other countries RM stick with it as it plans routes which come out on thier side.

If they want the rounds done by georoute then get involved and let them

and if the agreement says we use trolleys then use them

if it takes longer so be it

people are so used to making time that when they have to work their hours they think they are hard done by - you are not you are being paid for what you do and protecting jobs at the same time

if your route is too long using a trolley then book or cut off


but do not load up a bag instead and run round to get done you are doing a great diservice to all your workmates

do the job as it should be done - yes youmay have to work all your hours but those hours may well be still there in a years time

I do wonder how I'm supposed to keep the trolley in view when I have to walk up 50-60 zig-zagging steep steps to a house (or 50) surrounded by bushes and so-forth. Obviously they class it as terraced to lower the figures.

Still don't really understand how L/W trolleys are safe in any way. Imagine leaving your shoulderbag on the pavement whilst going up driveways. I think that'd be a conduct matter? I've only used them once and hated it. With a shared van the loops are often so small (say 3 or 4 bundles plus packets) (compared to when I've used pouch boxes or a shop with a shoudlerbag which was very often pushing the limit and i don't doubt sometimes over) they can fit in a shoudlerbag and comfortably be under weight. I've also never been told to use them and none of the people i've ever worked with has used them or even mentioned them, they seem to sit pointlessly in the back of the van. I can see the point if you have a lot of heavy pakcets or a particularly long loop, but they just seem unsafe and unweidly to me.

The HCT seems OK because it actually has a locked box and isn't jsut a bag full of parcels balanced on a pole.
