Do i have to attend work or just inform the DOM as to what the doc has said?

You get 7 days on a self cert , so do light duties after that or re visit your GP.

But when you were sent home, did that absence from work go on your sick record ? Because that would hardly be fair. You were not strictly speaking 'off sick' - it's hardly your fault if RM couldn't find you suitable light duties !!!

yes it went on my sick record and i ended up with a stage one with that period involved, i wasnt very happy and told them what i thought of the whole set up didnt matter still went thru, and to add insult to injury it was there fault i was ill ,

I had a similar thing. I was given a fit note, as I was unable to carry out a delivery. my Dom told me he had no light duties so my only option was to go sick.

I refused! stating I was available for work but not able to carry out delivery. Went and got my union rep and we ripped him to bits...

A DOM is NOT allowed to tell you to go sick!!!!!!!!

He soon found me light duties..

Yes he is.
If....If he has exhausted all avenues and no suitable work can be found for you then your "fit note" reverts to a "not fit for work" note.
Your Dom didn't bother his arse...that's why he found you light duties when your rep lit a fire underneath it.
The argument you would have is...why can't they find me light duties in a business that employs 150,000 or so people?
That's a tough argument for RM to win....

Exactly. We've had MC staff go to a nearby DO to perform light duties, such as dealing with dead letters etc. They CAN find light duties when they are pushed !

its funny that, when i asked for light duties i was expecting deads as the duty ,our office is always behind on them even more so now.

as far as i know there is no way to fight either a stage1 or stage2 so reps dont usually get involved until stage3.

They can, however, at the request of the individual attend as a witness and offer advice. In fact as a Stage 1 and Stage 2 are ultimately disciplinary processes it is an employees right to have Union representation or a colleague in attendance during the meeting.

You should have a rep present for all attendance procedure interviews.
Any mitigating circumstances need to be raised so even if they don't stop the issuing of stage 1 and 2, they can be used if it goes to a dismissal interview.
A stage 1 is just a stage 3 by a different name at a different time.
