wet letters

I got earache today from a woman about her letters being wet. My bag must have been put on a wet floor by the drop off driver. Anyway she had a good old rant about "what if its an important document blah blah" I could only say sorry and try to get away asap. Anyway is it not about time that royal mail started to use waterproof bags for main and pouch bags, instead of those crappy plastic bags they give you.

Tell her to take it up with RM customer services because we can't avoid the rain (unless I missed the WTLL telling us that we weren't allowed to get wet anymore), not our problem................and if it's so important then get the person posting is to put it in a plastic envelope instead of the cheapest, crappiest, most flimsy envelope they can find.

Sounds like your depot have not been issued with the new uniform "perch on the shoulder" golfing-style umbrellas... Get on to your DOM first thing tomorrow morning!

Anybody remember those old brown sacklike pouches? They had no inner rubberised coating at all and I have seen mail come out of those like papier mache and totally unable to be delivered. Perhaps we should bring them back into service purely for DSA mail. We used to put wet mail on the old cast iron radiators to recover what we could.

thing is, it's not just the rain that makes letters wet - anyone else suffer from a sweaty arm, thus making the last letter of every bundle more than a little damp?

I keep a red P739 folder under my bundle to minimise that
also dont have any plastic wrapped mail as the last letter

now that's a good idea custary - I think I'll try that in the future. As for no plastic, sometimes that's not an option
