AA Driver Assesment thingy...

I'm looking for any information on what to expect when doing the driver changeover. I used the search facility and saw a post that mentioned a theory test as well as a practical test, is this true? Are you quizzed like on a proper driving test and do you receive any documentation on a successful pass? Any info appreciated, thanks in advance.

You are probably confusing the Driver Risk Assessment done on a computer with the change over which is a practical assessment.
The two are separate but i suppose you could now be asked to do both before you are allowed to drive....i don't know.
Your changeover involves a man from the AA and the oldest,biggest,crappiest van in the office.
As long as you don't kill anyone you'll pass.

I did it about 5 years ago and all I did was drive round the local housing estate and reversed around a corner (nearside) and that was it.Just remember when you reverse around the corner to go back a good few yards to make sure you clear the junction.But if I was you I wouldn't bother its a mugs game driving for Royal mail,trust me on that.

Had mine a couple of months ago. It just involved him explaining the van checks, eye sight test and driving round for a bit. He does ask a few questions when he debriefs you after the drive bit it's not a test. It's pretty easy.

Hi all. Got a quick question. I have got an AA driving assesment thing tomorrow. Apprantlely everyone is being put through it at some point now. Was just wondering if anyone has been on it yet and what questions they ask you. Any pointers/tips.

Not really any questions - the instructor will show you the van checks etc and then you'll go for a drive wherever he tells you. He/She will generally assess your driving (esp. your speed and observation) and then once back to the office they'll give you a score.

Just bear in mind the obvious - speed, indicators, mirrors, box junctions etc and you'll be alright - it's nothing like as strict as a driving test.

Everyone who drives for RM would've done some sort of driver assessment, whether it is with the AA or with the old RM driving instructors. Nothing to worry about, quite straight forward really and you would only fail if you are a s**t driver and have no road sense at all. Don't think of it as a test, just think of it as test driving the vehicle.

I seriously think now anyone who wants to drive for Royal mail now,needs physcological testing,If you pass this is what to expect;Vans with no oil,vans with windscreen wipers like spiders legs,vans running on vapour because the last person cannot be arrsed to fill it up,vans left full of trays and mail bags,door pockets full of apple cores and half eaten sandwiches,body fluids all over the seat,glove boxes full off empty coke cans,50,000 rubber bands around the gear stick,phelgm over the mirrors and central locking that has never worked,I even had a brand new van that cut out if you flashed the headlights FFS.Don't do it mate

When P&L came to our DO a lad said he didn't want to drive but was "persuaded" to by DOM.He purposely failed his assessment by reversing into a kerb and not indicating.He can't drive P&l vans now.Another lad refused to show his driving license so he can't drive P&L vans.If everyone in RM did this they couldn't have P&L could they?
