Advice Please? (Dog Bite)

About a week ago I was bitten by a dog.
It was not serious at all, just a minor teeth mark, which broke the skin a little, I have had the doctor take a look at it, in case of infection or Tetanus, so all is OK that way.

However, my line manager is being VERY slow in dealing with it. I had to repeatedly ask him to put it into the diary, and he took almost a week in doing so, constantly saying "I will do it a bit later" and he STILL has not sent a letter to the dog owner, warning them of the consequences despite being repeatedly asked to do so. I am told that this is a very easy thing to do, as there is a standard letter on the computer that they use. My union rep has told me that he will have a word with my line manager.

However, what are my rights in this case? And what happens if I get bitten again before the owner is warned?

If you feel you are in danger in anyway refuse to deliver there. Take your union rep with you when you inform the manager.
Without knowing the full details of the incident maybe this should have been reported to the police to

The problem is that it is an open plan street, and the dog was let loose by the owner, and ran down the street towards me. As I was not actually in their garden at the time, I know that I might be at risk whenever I am in that street.

I don't know what the RM procedures are so just my own 2 pence worth here - I would speak to the police in your situation without hesitation. No doubt they have better things to do etc, etc. But a dangerous dog is likely to bite children and that's not okay by me. It's not okay for anyone to be bitten either. Whether in a postmans uniform or not a dog attack is a dog attack and I would speak to the police.

I'd have rang the police straight after the dog bit. Then i'd tell the lino.

Find the number of your dog warden at your local council offices.Our guy is pretty hot on dogs fouling or being a hazzard

Sorry to hear that, managers at my place last year refused to put it down as an accident when I was bitten. They are all a waste of time.

Similar happened in my office but it was a block of flats, 1 had a vicious dog that sometimes the reckless owners let out. The postman refused to go in there and the DIM backed him . The rest of the residents of the flats were not happy but safety MUST come first.
Im sure a union rep will answer on here if you wait

There are many stories on here with that happening,especially if the dog is always loose.
If you feel in danger then it's your right to refuse.
Rep needs to be on the case if this happens.

Yes, still feel sorry for the chap. Happened yesterday on delivery, don't have many details, office were gathered together this morning and told the news.
