The changes - staying or going

Well peeps ! I think it's fair to say the changes now taking place is the end of the RM as WE know it and a new RM is taking shape - the changes and sizes of walks surely break contracts ? When I applied my job was using a bike , sa attendance on OT if you wanted it (ie optional ) nights , earlies,middle turns , late turns etc a different kind of job to what we have now - yes I did find it strange when I joined that many never worked full hours by making time or running round a smaller round and knew in other businesses this would not be the norm and needed to be looked at but now we have a workload that is not fair nor achievable and not the job as described - surely there must be a breach of contract with some of the change ?? Very clever I noticed how the contracts just read a postal worker , 40hrs , collecting, sorting delivering etc - not very full on in words ! Anyway point is most rounds are 3 into 1 which leaves 1500 calls between 2 on park and loop !! The biggest had 1900 !! This means 6-7 hours walking - surely not healthy over 6days ? Is anybody wanting to leave or are you sticking it out waiting to see what happens ?! What's best way forward as after 12yrs service seem to feel had enough now :( cheers

stick at it mate just do your contracted hours and no more as if they do start paying people off its better to walk with something in your pocket after all the s**t weve gone through. this is what they want people to walk away for nothing.

The relief is unmeasurable.

The job is dead - it wont exist in 10 years. Much like milk rounds, postie rounds will be much fewer, longer and heavier.

Very sad. Been with the post 15 years. "modernisation" is just a tool to turn RM into a nice tidy package to sell off to some failing EU firm. I've noticed that delivery targets are better now than they ever were. An old chap at our office, who worked as a postie for 32 years said about troubles in the 80s when people didnt want to be a postie. In an office of fourty, only 15 worked there. Rounds didnt go out for days, but they were covered on overtime. He and his friend did two, sometimes three rounds a day. Anyway, he retired the other month and didnt believe the mail volumes were falling, if anything, as we all probably know, they are growing in different ways (online ordering etc etc). Every round is twice the size now. The only things that are failing RM is the habbit of letting crappy posties become managers. Most of these managers have a chip on their shoulders, but some are very good. A few years ago the union said that every round should be 3.5 hours. Since then the rounds have grown, people are getting more injuries, people are being pushed to their limits, and the service will suffer. Why? Because all the good and highly employable people are leaving. CMON ROYAL MAIL, WAKE UP!!!
