Booking Annual Leave

Does anyone else think it's a complete joke?

I tried booking my annual leave for next August, only to find it's all booked up. That's a year in advanced and I still can't get it.

It's ridiculous how far in advanced we have to book our annual leave, but even when we do that, some of us still can't get it.

Most other companies only need like 2 months notice.

Yeah, me.

I have 3 days of events I have tickets for that wouldn't miss for the world. I'd rather quit my job than miss it.

Not sure how to go about getting them off. If I ask if there's anyway I can get them off and they so no, I am f****d. Might just have go the sicky route.

Well, I was asked today, but because I'm one of the last picks all of August is booked. I find it quite unbelievable to be honest.

August is a red hot demand month for holidays.

It is good for families to get holiday together.

I can't understand why some people who don't have families book holiday off in August when it is easier month of the year. I would book time off away from peak time to get cheaper holiday and do less hard work in other month.

I am a single guy with no kids or family, and yet every single year they give me my annual leave in July and August! I suspect that they do this deliberately.

yeah i have worked at a lot of different firms most just need a weeks notice for a week off when i was first given a holiday sheet to book next years time off i was shocked,but i was more shocked when all the old boys told me the old system worked better when it was done on seniority now that is a piss take still had to change 3 of my 4 weeks though and cant ever take any odd days owed what a feckin place lol

I agree with one week noticed stuff in some firm.

It is always hard to plan that far ahead. What if you fall in love and want to go away with a girlfriend for a week in Madrid in 8 weeks time but you can't plan that far ahead last year as you haven't met the girl. Or families wedding and stuff like that.

In our office our DIM has just changed the way we pick A/L by executive action. and given us 48 hours notice to have our holiday dates ready for the next 18 months. that up to april 2013

You could ask for unpaid leave for the 3 days your attending the o games.

Might be an idea.

It'd be nice if there was special priority for those wanting to attend the Olympics. I know a lot of people don't give a s**t, but it's a once in a lifetime chance, so it's a bit unfair if there are people who have booked the time off for the Olympics without even knowing or without intending to watch the games.

I've always found it crazy that Royal Mail ask that we plan our lives so far in advanced. It totally eliminates booking last minute cheap holidays when we are having to book stuff 12 months in advanced.
