In my defence about the other animals, I also have delivered to farms - nothing worse than a whole flock of sheep surrounding you

first time i was bitten .. it was a dog that had -for aslong as i had been on the duty- been locked inside the house, or in the garden where there was a very high fence and no obvious way for it to get out...

it used to go absolutly ape sh*t when i walked past the house...

anyway one day, one of the owners had walked out the back door, opened the gate and left both open... dog saw or smelled me and ran at me barking like a maniac, and then sunk its teeth into my shin befire i knew what was happening... automatic reaction and thankfully i had a large book sized packet that got smacked across the f*ckers nose... i ended up with a hole in my trousers, some blood but not much else apart from a constant sting for the next day or so... and that not including the booster injection i got at the doctors the next day...

the last time i got bit though.. was a dog i had gotten used too over a few months... it never barked.. used to love getting scratched on the hairy bit of its nose...

this one day i walked into the garden, scratched its nose as usual.. posted the letters and walked back to the gate... next thing the dog is growling, and jumps up and bites me right on my hip...

both times got the usual "its never done anything like this before" response from the owners... and when reported to the DOM, all that was done was a dog warning notice was added to the walk log.... no letter to the owner, nothing...

i understood that dogs were a hazzard of the job... but the owners really should be keeping the god inside or in the back garden untill the mail has been delivered.. rather than let them run loose, and leave the owners open to compensation claims from injured posties.. which is what i should have done at the time...

i got my first bite today. the property in question has a nasty little yappy thing but they have a box at the end of the drive for their mail which is on the house side of the gates at the end of the drive (which are always shut). As i was leaning over the gate to put the mail in the box the little yapper came charging down the drive stuck it's head through the gate and bit me just above the knee. nothing too serious didn't rip my trousers but did puncture my leg - little bit of blood

manager wasn't about when i returned to the office so will report it to him tomorrow morning.

One of the guys at my office got bitten by an insect last week, no idea what it was but it drew blood and 2 days later he had to go to hospital as his arm went bright red and had swollen up

I spent 6 months in Belize and when we came back we were all given a warning card. If we developed any rash or red spots we had to show it to a Doctor apparently there is an insect there that lays it eggs in skin and about 6 weeks to 6 months later all the little buggers eat their way out. No pain apparently was a symptom. <shudder>

That happened to a PHG of ours back at the old office. Something in a bag of mail from the middle east, it scurried behind a heating pipe and was never seen again. His arm blew up like a balloon.
