Do your firms deliveries sort IPS on a Sat ?

Sorry but iam having a moan

Every time the "have your say" comes up we have the same moans and one of them is about the early time that our 4 firms deliveries get finished on a Saturday.

After the last moan it was agreed that they would join the rest of us and sort IPS on a Sat because as much as 50% of their delivery is sat retention mail and they are all normally going home by around 10am
However like most things in RM this agreement was not backed by management and after a couple of weeks the firms deliveries were once again prepping their own walks whilst we slog on with the sorting

I normally try not to take too much attention to others but today I could not help but notice how when I was sorting you had a consistent stream of firms posties walking around in a group taking letters out of the IPS frame as fast as I could sort them. Once we had finished and before I could start to get my flats in the frame they were going out on delivery.

I pop back to the office for my second trolley around 10.20am on a sat and sure enough all the firms vans were parked up all finished.

Is this just my office as it seems unfair ?

Esp as the heavy rain did not start till 11am and i got soaked

I wouldn't worry about it krussel.
Royal Mail's plan is to collapse the firms on a saturday anyway so one out of every two will go.
It maybe hasn't got to you yet but it will....

Our firms take the piss everyday not just saturday. Business mail has dropped far more than residential (imo) hence where these duties once got mountains of mail they are now among the lightest in the office. They still do no IPS and stay on their frames trying to look busy though. The bigger offices near us which have more firms deliveries have got rid of a lot of them and they now have to do collections on saturday instead of going home at 10am (or earlier).

Depending on how the office runs with regard to sorting.
My place the drivers can't sort as they have to prep and go out early with the reg and tracked.

The advantage of that is Monday to Friday duties for the lucky ones on the repick.

I've been doing a commercial duty for the past few months. All us on firms start up to an hour earlier than a residential/rural duty and 'most' of us have to seg pkts for 30mins. Now P & L is in a lot of the commercial duties have an hour and a half IPS on Saturday mornings and they have to come back after their duty to do another half a walk.

Sounds familiar! One of our business deliveries was sorting his packets out this morning ,(letters all in the frame) only 10min
after ips finished ! which he doesnt do.. I think something is going to be said at wtl this week.
He upset a few people on what was quite a heavy day for a Saturday.

None of the firms guys do any IPS in fact i think they only ever do anything if it has a coffee in the sentence and/or smoke break anyone,they are the first out the office and the first back only in the revision i think that is just about to change as park and loop vans take bits on there will be less need for so many firms duty's.

A few sats back i was delivering to one of my roads at 9.20am when i see a van parked up at the end. When i got there it was a firms driver. He asked me if the dom had gone home yet as he was waiting to go back. He went on to say that they (firms drivers) normally take it in turns to drive pass the office to see if the doms car is still there, once she's gone home they text each other and bring the vans back. However his phone was out of charge that day.

I ve seen another sitting on a park bench eating Macdonald's at 9am

Iam struggling most sats to get done by 12 noon

Know what you mean we struggle to get back to the office by our finish time they have gone by 10.00 and as for collections it is the posties on van delivery's that do all of that so the firms guys have not even got that to worry about.

Quite a lot is our own bloody fault though

Three of the firms duties have to drop off a few posties bags on the way out but on a sat nearly half of these use their cars to finish earlier so they have even less to do. In fairness i dont mind them making the time, because if the boot was on the other foot i know i would do the same, but its just the fact they refuse to help with the sorting when they can see us all struggling. Esp as they clear all 3 holes at once so often they will come around one after the other or even in a group and the frame is clear.

The dom will even go around the office and get the rurals back on the sorting (they only do half an hour) if its dragging on but the firms seem to be the untouchables.

Same at our office,Saturday is a busy day for drivers,ok most firms are closed but they do all reg,packets and parcels,tracked,bags drops and a mid-day collection,if they done IPS they may fail there duties.

I think thats fair enough but we have to do all our own

I dont know i just got grumpy on sat as i got totally soaked in the last 45 mins and knowing that others had been finished 2 hours earlier was the final straw. I know nothing will change though its been this way for 20 years +
