Hi there chaps.
Just applied for this job as a part timer and was wondering if anyone could give me some information about the job and generally what it will entail?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sort 2nd class outward mail
Do a 2 route (driving to the speed limits and getting very lost when your new)
Unload your van pick up keys for 3 route
Do 3 route (driving to speeds limits and getting very lost)
Unload your van
Book overtime
Go home.
That will be a good duty if your on a bad 1 you could be sorting M3's until 5 and just do a 3 route and a sweeper.
If your on afternoons you won't sort 2nd class you will just go out on your collections and sort 1st class between 8pm and 10pm depending on your MC. You are very unlikley to get mornings or night as they are mostly 7 1/2 tonne work (in my MC anyway)
Don't break your neck out on collections, if you get a fixed penalty notice the managers will hang you out to dry and don't do any rurals without training.
Don't use a sat nav, it spoils the fun of getting lost and it give managers a stick to beat other new starters with E.G. well bob managed to do it without missing 3 boxes and he didn't get lost so why can't you. Most people will help you if you take an AtoZ and ask.

most collections duties are a piece of p*ss... nice and simple.
once you learn the route you will rarely if ever get to a collection point early, and have to sit and wait till time...
aside from over christmas... doing collections is one of the easiest jobs
