Hi, can somebody help please. I am on a 35hr contract......I do overtime to bump my hours up, but i am now losing them to full timers. What are the rules on part/full time......who gets the o/t first, and should it be evenly distributed?
Cheers......

Re: 39 Hr V 35 Hr Contract......
did you sign a 35 hr contract which you were obviously happy with as was 39 hr contracts
so everyone should be treated equally ie ft due as much ot as pt
of course mgmt would prefer pt to do only ot but that would discriminate against ft
having probs in our office ft have cover on days off but not pt they usually work theirs so weve pulled that as discrimination as against ft ot prospects
wonderful rm isn,t it

Evenly distributed, you should at least have an overtime book.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Overtime "Should" be allocated fairly but in reality it rarely is! Normally involves the "F" word = Favouritism.
I believe some Offices have an Aggregated Overtime Sheet that is on display, I think that's a bloody good idea.
Then everyone can see where the OT's going and the theory is if one guy gets it one week then someone else gets some the following week. BIG PROBLEM the DIM has to manage that kind of system! Much better/easier to just let Joe Brown Nose do it all the time...Less Stress
Most OT seems to be dished out with a nod and a wink. How can some "Colleagues" be clocking 20 hours OT a week (60 hours total) while their Fellow Posties are being restricted to their 22.5hr contracts?
Try talking to your DIM and ask for OT to be distributed FAIRLY as you believe some colleagues are being DISCRIMINATED against. You believe everyone in the office should have an EQUAL OPPORTUNITY to any available OT.
Get the drift? Even the Dimmest of DIMs may recognise a few Buzz words, which if added to a grievance form could spoil his whole week end!

Ha ha, very true. Our O/T - which is as rare as rocking-horse manure - was allocated "fairly", along similar lines.Dorset Plodder wrote: Overtime "Should" be allocated fairly but in reality it rarely is! Normally involves the "F" word = Favouritism.![]()
Which does work pretty well. Until the person doing the Overtime Allocation 'forgets' to record the hours of the bit of skirt he's been bonking. We've been told it'll be an OT Bonanza Crezz when the Revision starts, ours keeps getting postponed because the Area Manager keeps worrying about ..how many hours we've had to put into the office or how many hours our DIM wants for Re-Training FFS!crezz wrote:when shared van hits you, believe me there will be plenty of O/T to go round
Obviously they're not going to get people wanting OT with the later finish, so DIM says the OT will be put onto the Front End of the working day......he's expecting it to die off as the Revision starts to work!
