I don't think we should be hugely worried at the moment. But...

The business WILL be sold and there WILL be job losses, this is certain.

I can't see any real change happening for at least 18 months/ 2 years.

Good idea to get thinking about other jobs!

Yep when they come looking for more flexibility and getting more out of everyone then wont give a toss if you already put extra effort in to finish early.

Thing is I'll admit there are definitely efficiencies to be made i.e. Monday and Tuesdays but the rest of the week as it currently stands after our latest revision theres not slack at all in the system. They'll still be a need for a postie to do the final through the letter box delivery so can't see how there is scope to make any drastic cuts to OPG numbers. The only known unknown (to me at least) is how these walk sequencing machines will effect OPG's. If you knock out a substantial amount of the IPS then walks could get larger to compensate which would? could? lead to FT OPG's being made compulsorily redundant. Thats my greatest fear!

Thats the problem.... theres just nothing out there! We've all bitched about RM as employee's but we all know that as a company RM is far far better than the vast majority of employers out there offering that same sort/level of work.

A friend who was made redundant earlier this year (not RM) thought if the worst came to the worst he could stack shelves at a supermarket..... NOPE! all they'll offer is part-time and even then they want people that'll stay long term and be flexible for not much more than minimum wage. He's been turned down time after time.

Times have changed and its NOT just the recession!

It wouldn't suprise me at all to see 5 or even 4 day a week deliveries, particularly to residentials and maybe firms still getting 5/6 days a week.

Sat deliveries would be the first to go.

Perhaps a special rate postage will be paid for a sat delivery just like any other delivery firm but you would only need a few drivers for that service.
