Ah....how i hanker for the good old days......getting up an hour earlier,working a six day week,helping to empty a loose loaded 600,cutting and tipping scores of overweight dirty grey bags before manually sorting all the mail. Not to mention going out on delivery in the dark with a crappy torch,lugging heavy bags around because there's not enough drop off points. Yep we had it good in them days,i often reminice about them when i'm pushing my nice big red trolley around wearing my slippers and smoking my pipe!

Yesm funny how we forget those bits!!Especially cutting and tipping, don't know how many times I sustained very nasty cuts with those curved scissors! Delivering in pitch black blocks of flats--and the second deliveries!

i have 6 years under my belt im turning 30 this year, in that time i have gone from loving the job, home by 12 everyday happy home life able to relax in the afternoons to i hate this job (postie) always finishing about 3pm having rows with my family because im just knackered when i get home and just want to sleep. Give me redundancy and i will gladly take it to get out of this mess of a company

I agree about the 6 day week, cutting, tipping, manual sorting, two deliveries etc etc: BUT reasonable levels of overtime, a management that would negotiate across the board overtime for large postings with the union when the union had some clout, managers who had generally done the job for years before moving up and were well versed in what was and was not acceptable, early starts admittedly but also early finishes, a united workforce who all started at the same time and nobody left the office until everyone was ready, new starters received adequate training, but most of all we were happy, conscientious and the public appreciated us.
