Our office has recently changed to the P&L revision.
Before this came in the whole office had their break at roughly the same time everyday
about 9:25 just before you went out on delivery.
Now we've changed over, the management are announcing (without warning) over the tannoy
For those people who want to take a break, take it now .....!!!
The times vary, no set time, but for myself, I'm on 30hrs, and new start time is 9:10
yesterday all the full timers had their break before I had even started my shift!
Can the management do this?
Surely it has to be a set time everyday, preferably before you go out on delivery.
Personally I think management are doing this in the hope you will take all your walk out!

WORKING TIME REGULATIONS
Rest breaks - a break during your working day
As an adult worker (over 18), you will normally have the right to a 20 minute rest break if you are expected to work more than six hours at a stretch.
A lunch or coffee break can count as your rest break. Additional breaks might be given by your contract of employment. There is no statutory right to 'smoking breaks'.
The requirements are:
• the break must be in one block
• it cannot be taken off one end of the working day - it must be somewhere in the middle
• you are allowed to spend it away from the place on your employer's premises where you work
• your employer can say when the break must be taken, as long as it meets these conditions

you should have a 318, that tells you what you should do every minuye of you working day, ask your manager for a copy and stick to it!!!

I take my break about 3 1/2 hours into delivery otherwise I totally crash and find it really difficult to concentrate for the last 90 minutes so I need mine outside

I take my break before I go to work.
Now RM are paying me to have breakfast in my own home. Result.

i am on 25hrs and my new start time is 9-15, been told i have to take my break at 9-25

Unfortunately as you work less than 6 hours a day ( I presume its 5 x 5hrs) then you are not entitled to a statutory break so the rules at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/ ... If it is an issue you wish to pursue though get your rep involved and see if they can fit a break in on the delivery side rather than the indoor.
