Tying up walks you have never done before

Well to cut a long story short, everyone started there new walks just over 3 weeks ago, making me a reserve even though i was one anyway just kept on the same duty for a year and a month.

anyway I'm basically on something new from week to week, now just in general i know one area that the office delivers to, but the rest i just know of them so to speak as I've never had a reason to go there for anything, now i know this is part of being a reserve, just my question is, i just think there should be something in place like a official and most efficient way of tying up the delivery to help people like me who have never done it before or haven't done it in awhile.

Basically what i have found is that when u ask other colleagues like obviously some will do this no problem when writing it out or telling you how to tie it up, where as others will think they know what there doing and when you get out there your on a wild goose chase dead walking all over the place and trying to find streets, getting lost etc i mean its pretty nerve racking in itself doing new duties all the time without all this.

I just think if there was something more official in place for each walk like a master copy or something it would make life easier, i mean from experience in being in this job it is defiantly all in the prep, and if you do find yourself a bit lost or cant find a property you need to deliver to at least the mail in your hands is all in order so u can always follow it and know which is your next letter so to speak.

Dunno if I'm making much sense, just one thing i bloody hate is not being in full control of what your doing, you ask someone who should know what there doing and you get out there n its completely tits up and find yourself more lost than you should be.

In our office there is a break down of the delivery including tying up and what goes in what drop box etc contained withing the walklog.

There is also a delivery order for car users as well

Oh really, nothing like that where i'm at, you just basically have to rely on other people who have done it before and hope for the best.

My frame has a green slot for the start of the loop and a red slot for the end.
Every door is on there in the correct delivery sequence.
A monkey could tie it up...
I know my own limitations.

What about in regards to just being on a new walk in a section you have never done before, i know obv alot of people on here are mainstays and have been with RM for years, just with me i'm just doing whatever needs doing basically, as i didn't even end up with a float of 5 duty's over 5 weeks, i just got nothing basically in the resign so i'm just being bounced around so to speak and covering what needs covering, like over the 3 weeks of doing it i find you start to settle into it by mid week its just getting each Monday over with.

Like obv for you saying there are complete walk break downs and how to tie up etc, its completely different to me relying on other workers, I just basically had a really s**t day 2day with not only being on a area i don't know, just know of and how i was told to tie it up was just mental none of it made any sense, so i ended up taking some mail back some of it was time locks, boarded up and missorts, but there was 1 street aswell i took back that i just couldn't find for the life of me, i thought i did alright considering how bad it was tied up and the fact id never done it before, just i feel like its either hit and miss with how much pressure you will put on urself relying on other ppl to help you tie it up once out there.

I dunno perhaps im worrying to much, i just don't feel like i'm doing as good of a job as i can do, having a duty and not is miles apart its like two different jobs imo, just miss what i was doing for my first year with RM.

The state that some duty holders allow their frames to get into is embarrassing.
Anybody should be able to pull out a walk blind.
It should run from bottom left to top right and start/finish points should be clearly marked on the frame.
To quote an idiot...you don't need to be a rocket scientist etc.

Ah yeah i agree with you, but not all are like that in our office, if i could of tied it up "as the board" as its know in my office, wouldn't of been a problem.

any new builds just get written on also in biro and just stay like that for ages.

You shouldn't be doing walks you haven't been trained on.

I too get bounced around, and do whatever needs doing, BUT thats only bounced around the duties I have been trained on. I've only ever been asked to do a duty I haven't been trained on. I assumed I was being trained on it when I was told to do it. After half an hour I found that manager and said theres no one here. He said what do you mean, your doing it. I explained that I wasn't trained on that duty and wouldn't be doing it alone until I was.

Just be firm with them.

If your put on a walk without any tie up order you do just have to go around pestering people untill someone offers to help you, done that and its not good really.

I dont know what else to suggest other than perhaps looking on Google Earth Street view and try to work something out by that.

I thought all frames started top left to bottom right,thats how it is at our place but not at my local office as i found out at Christmas when i preped a walked and tied it up only to be told that they started bottom right

You shouldn't be doing walks you haven't been trained on.

you just get trained when you start with us and that's it, i had 4 days training which was awful to say the least, the guy who trained me nearly put my back out with how much weight he crammed into it on a heavy day, but thats another story.

but yeah ive had my 4 days training which was the walk i stayed on for a year and a month, and now all the resign has kicked in i'm expected to do anything in the office off my own back.
