Should I join the Union?

This is not a poll and I would not want it to be. Nor would I want to turn something into Union bashing. I just need opinion.

I am not a Union member ; BUT I am more than considering joining. If I join I want my voice to be heard ; as there are problems (well problems in my opinion - like fixed days off) that need to be addressed and resolved.

I can , and do, stand up for myself. And because of my stance (done in the proper way) I do not have any issues with Local Management.

My concern is for the others that just accept whatever is told to them. They do this with a moan ... and then get on with it. Most in the office do not understand the last (or any) agreement;; and yet they get no support.

Will it be worth my while (and I don't mean financially) to join? Will my voice be heard? And can I make a difference?

i would because it has benefits and you may need its support if you are sick and get into difficulty, they have legal help if you get involved with an accident.
the members of annoyed though with the CWU over the d2d issue and possibly the dsa stuff.

I believe that the union gives me the edge when putting a view across to management and my union rep is very good.

very often thankless job on behalf of your fellow

Don't think he's running for Rep Blue. Although it doesn't come across very clearly.

I'm in the Union for the same reason I vote in Elections.... If you're not involved then you can't really complain either way!

The Union is a safety net and may be crap for everyday little problems but If I'm in deep s**t I like to think I've got some back up. Nothing seems to make a Dim wind his neck in so fast as when he says, " Can we have a chat in my office?" and you say, "Hang on a minute I've just got to fetch my Union Rep".

I would say definitely YES! But dont expect it to be the magic solution to all your lino troubles.

The main reason I joined the Union Lizard was I was hoping that I'd get deported to Australia! I wouldn't have bothered coming back though.

On a more serious note I think we sometimes forget what our predecessors had to go through to get Unions going. It's a pity that some people can't see further than their noses and just can't be arsed!

Personally i would.

Forget national topics. If you get in any trouble or just ill and need time of the union can offer you support and help so think of it as an insurance policy

I am going to join. Thought long and hard about it; and do think that it is worthwhile.

As for the Rep bit; well you might be suprised when I say that I do believe that is an option!!!
