grief off the manager.....

ok guys. im getting hassle off the gaffer and have to have a meeting with him on monday. is there anything on paper what states what should be done for me when i go to the office to get my round on a morning. im on a temp 30 hour contract which involves me starting at 8.30. am i right in thinking that my round should be ready for me to just bag up and go....?. if this is right i need hard proof. thanks.

I have been told by my manager that all I should have to do is bag up and go. In reality, which is where most of us work, in the last three months this has happened once! Check your job description, mine says my job will be to "pick up pre-sorted mail and deliver it". Hope this helps.

TBH a 30 hour contract should include prep and bundling up, so unless your duty is 5 hours long then he could be right

In our place the walks are never thrown in, if u go in at ur time to an empty frame and work to your time, then what they do is offer 45 min overtime to prep in the morning. but again its just an example of how they cant run anything, by the time u put in 6 lots of d2d most of the prep time is away

which is what is happening and is taking me well over my time, which i dont want. i took mail back the other day and got fecked for it. our manager WILL NOT have people cutting off. dont even start with the "grow a pair" nonsense, it doesnt wash anymore. there must be something what can be done. should i go above his head and see what happens.......then again maybe not, as if his managers will be on my side

, god i really need a new job....

I think a lot of people miss what is going on here regarding delivery.

You are employed by Royal Mail for X amount of hours a day. If the round is not prepped, or after prepping your round you feel you will not be able to complete then cut off. It does not matter what contract you are on, if there is not enough time to complete there is simply just not enough time.

However, six hours a day should involve a level of prep in a normal delivery scenario. (little to no IPS)

I'm also on 30hr contract like yourself and prep my own walk inc. D2Ds.
If i can't finish my delivery then i approach my line manager and tell him i'm working to my time.
Leave mail in but NEVER bring mail back because you went over your time unless unforeseen circumstance allows you to bring mail back.
Bringing mail back could be classed as wilful delay.

my round takes 5.20 to do plus add my meal break and the hour an a half im in the office finishing off whats left to do....takes me well over. as i said, with my manager, cutting off's a no no. now its ok saying "cut off, do this do that" but i got a proper roasting for doing just that which has led to a meeting on monday. my rep will be there but i honestly dont think that will help matters much. just sucks big time....

As long as you're doing your job properly then there's nothing to be scared about. If they say its a preformance problem then let them test you, as long as youre not going to a cafe for ages on your round or things like that then they cant do anything. I know it's hard to stand up for yourself but if you dont start now it will only get worse and they will walk over you and dont forget to take a union rep in with you.

theres no mickey taking, im actually doing the round faster than others, i have to as i pick my son up from school at 3.15, or im supposed to. 4 times now iv had to call a friend up to do it as im late. it all boils down to the prep im having to do which is making me late. iv told the boss about my son but he's just not arsed. gonna have to nip this in the bud on monday.
i also should have mentioned my actual contract is 19 hours, up to a 30 temp. iv been told ill probably get put back down to 19 but in the last 3 weeks 2 new starters have been put on 25 hour contracts which means i'll be on less even though iv been at rm now for 14 months. im getting totally shafted....

30 hours is prepping a full walk and doing a delivery. you only have to walk for 3.30 mins on delivery. just prep your mail up and tell your manager at about 9.30 your cutting off.

the difference between them on 25 hour contracts that are new starters there only on temps and will prob go once your revision has been implemented. like me. im 20 hours perm but at the moment on a 40 hour temp. there is many people on 20 hours perm who have been working there for 5 years. and this christmas we had 2 new people on temp 25 hr contracts.

if you want the extra money make the most of it but if you just want 30 hours just work your time.
and dont worry about managers saying they will put you back down to 19 if you dont take all your walk out it dont work like that.
