had a collison in van today.

Post by uprising95 »

hi

i was reversing a royal mail van today behind some shops to collect mail.
as i reversed someone tried to squeeze by me to pass quickly.

we ended up smashing into each other.
it was obviously clear before i started reversing or i wouldn't of.

im just wondering when the claim has been processed if it effects you own private car insurance at all ?
does anyone no

thanks

Yep, I think i'm correct in saying, if a claim is made, then you have to report it to your own insurance company.

Yes i am afraid by law you have to report the matter to your ins company. If not and you prang your own car they may claim you have no insurance due to not declaring  . It also may increase you costs when you renew, depends who you are with.

Why would there be a claim if it was in no way your fault?
Did you accept any liability after the accident?
Unless you are willing to accept "knock for knock" which you really shouldn't do in a company vehicle...you should always contact the police after an accident and let them deal out the blame.
If you are faultless there should be no claim and no need for your premiums to increase.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Sadly its normally not the case  When they quote you they ask if you have been involved in any accidents within the last 3 years, if you reply yes they then want to know if you were blame worthy. Either way it NORMALLY increases the risk factor and with it the premium.

It does depend who your with though as my dad got away with a knock but it was on private land. :hmmmm

who admits that it was there fault ...not alot of people do.
its an evil world.

i was reversing and i checked to see if it was clear before hand and this guy tried passing.
i would say that's not my fault.
he should of stayed still and waited for me to reverse.
were only talking walking speed reversing.

none of us agreed who's fault it was we just exchanged details etc...
phoned my manager , wrote a statement , now i have to fill in a form tomorrow.

i would hate it to effect my own car insurance having 5 years no claims.
but thinking about it my car insurance is totally separate to company car insurance the fore it should have no effect but i dont no.
what a friday this has been

Your no claims bonus is safe as you are not making a claim yourself :Very Happy

I think if it was me i would prob phone my insurance and speak to an advisor to be safe and covered.

You may be ok. My dad was at the local dump when he had a small bump with another car. Both were turning so they agreed it was both their faults. My dad lost part of his grill and the other car a corner of a bumper when they pulled apart.

They exchanged phone numbers and reg numbers. The guy said he would prob have to claim of his own ins because of the cost of a new bumper. I got my dad a 2nd hand grill from ebay :Very Happy

Anyway my dad thought he better phone his own insurance in case the other guy tried to make a claim (he didnt). He told them and gave details inc regs etc but nothing happened and his premuim did not increase. :Very Happy

I had a small bump in a RM van about five years ago,it made a small hole in the plastic, the bumper was already damaged i got a letter from the aread manager saying "sorry to hear about you accident, hope your ok but you cost Royal Mail £120 damaged to the van you were driving".I have declared it as a accident to my own insurance since with no claim and it has never made any difference to my premiums.I would say it's better to be up front with insurance companies as they would try anything to get away without paying out these days.
