Accident on way to work .

As anyone ever been involved in an accident travelling to work first thing in the morning before they sign on ,which then means a time on the sick because of a fracture or injury .If so is it correct you cannot put it into the office accident book .But would you still be entitled to a claim .

you werent in work so i doubt its liable to be put in the accident book,unless you are referring to transport in an RM vehicle?

Not sure about this, but would you not have a case for making a claim against the local authority if it happened on a public road?

Councils Losing Thousands Through Pothole-Related Injury Claims

Local authorities in the UK are leaving themselves open to personal injury claims due to the high number of dangerous potholes on roads.

The AA says pothole-ridden roads have led to a number of road users being either seriously hurt or killed, with cyclists particularly at risk.

Speaking to the BBC, Paul Watters, a spokesman for the motoring group, said common injuries for cyclists who hit a pothole include broken wrists and severe cuts and bruising.

His comments follow research by the BBC which discovered that authorities across Britain are having to pay more in damages to consumers whose vehicles have been damaged by potholes.

The research revealed that pothole damage and general repair work on UK roads cost Shropshire Council roughly £40,000 in individual compensation claims, while North Yorkshire County paid out nearly £74,000 in compensation .

Had the same about 10 years ago... nothing to do with RM but the council settled with me getting just over £800. Bit of bruising, scraped skin and ripped clothing mainly. BTW I just wrote into the council and took it from there... nothing to do with these 'claim service' vultures.

Had you your manager's permission to take the royal mail bicycle home and signed the form accordingly? Grey area as to any possible claim but would at the least advice contacting union solicitors or private firm that deals in personal injury cases to see what they advice.

Sorry yes they can. If you're off sick due to accident outside work and you claim. Damages, they will get the sick money back. Happened to me. 3 months worth.

Ditto on this iam affraid

Happened to a friend about 5 years back he fractured shoulder after crashing off his bike going over a pot hole. He was off for 9 months and won something like £13k. However RM did claim the money back so i dont think he ended up with very much.

Another postie got squashed against the curb by a bus and hurt his ankle. He had 3 weeks of light duties and got £2500 from the bus company

Had a crash in a RM van once, went to make a claim from the other driver then got a letter from RM asking if i was going to make a claim as they'd want the sick pay back. So never bothered going through it all just for them to squeeze any money i won away from me.

I'm sure as it was posted elsewhere that the comp you get for the/a accident is seperate to the claim for RM wages.
Can someone confirm.

Think you missed out there pal. I had a claim after a car ran into the back of my car (nowt to do with royal mail). The wages RM paid me whilst on sick were added onto my claim and repaid directly to RM. Didn`t affect my payout at all.
