but royal mail dont want a 5 day week mail operation and the union have said they dont either,they said the members dont want it. Just shows you what the union actually knows about what its members want. They say having a 5 day operation will cause job losses but we're having job losses now and it will only get worse.

Apart from the job losses which we have covered enough.
Think of how a 5 day service will impact on duty structures and attendance patterns?
It would be much easier for Royal Mail to have us all on a bog standard 5 day week,it wouldn't make any sense to clutter things up with anything "innovative".
No...4 day weeks,No...9 day fortnights,No...1 week off in 6 or 4.
I don't think many people on the 4 day week system would give it up for a straight Mon-Fri and i know the guys on the week off certainly wouldn't want to.

I for one would welcome Monday - Friday and it could be 9-5 for all I care.When I talk to customers on the rounds that I cover they couldn't give a monkeys if they don't have a delivery on saturday because they are all doing family things together which we can't and which will get worse if they bring later starts/finishes on saturdays.

They've already done this in our office. At least half of it... so far. Late finishes really do kill off your day. Bring on Monday to Friday any day. By the way, it is already going through parliament to remove the need for the Saturday delivery, ready for privatisation, so it's only a matter of time if you ask me.

Mon - Fri will lead to about 16 000 job losses.
The loss of those subs would probably be enough to finish off the CWU as an independant trade union as well.
For all of you who think your DO would be better without a rep.....be careful what you wish for.

Whilst I appreciate the Union are not quite the flavour of the month at the moment, I would have to ask as an ordinary member of RMC, and the CWU, what is the relevance of the CWUs failings and the fact that most postal operators do a 5 not 6 day week.

Not that you shouldn't post you opinions but unfortunately all 3 of the above posts only show disatisfaction but do not expand why that disastisfaction is releant to this thread. I am honestly not sure if you are:

1. Blaming the Union because we are on a 6 day week.
2. Blaming the Union for even having a discussion on reducing the USO, although I have no indication if they are or are not.
3. Blaming the Union because we are not already on a 5 day week.

Just my own opinion but slagging of the Union without explanation is like having a chat about football in the Pub and some drunk shouting "Rooney's a Thug" - He may be right but what does it have to do with Yoevil against Huddersfield this weekend.

Sursprisingly I don't feel thousands losing there jobs is well worth it for me to get more Saturdays off.
IF a 5 day USO would even bring that about.
