I started last week on a 30 hour contract (6 hours a day) and on saturday i was on my own for the 1st time and it took me a while to complete my walk i started at 5:00am and finished at 14:45 i didn't have a break so when i filled in my time sheet i put start time 5:00 and finish time 15:15 as i added my break onto my shift.
Will i only get paid for the 6 hours or the full 10h 15m i'm confused?!
Thanks

Re: hours question?
9.45 hour = 50 min meal relief.
10.35 hours - 6hours = 4.35 hours OT.
this is what you are entitled to.

Hope it wasn't your walk that you started at 5.00 am
As above, make sure you put in the o/t soonish too as after a week or so they try make excuses as to not putting it through

I'm personally surprised that you got nearly a week before being sent out on your own.

They must pay you what you worked, simple as thatCarlito wrote:haha no i started at 5:00 and left the office just after 9:00 i'm sure i'll get quicker the more i do it but didn't know if they would pay my overtime just because i took longer than other people?mma83 wrote:Carlito wrote:I started last week on a 30 hour contract (6 hours a day) and on saturday i was on my own for the 1st time and it took me a while to complete my walk i started at 5:00am and finished at 14:45 i didn't have a break so when i filled in my time sheet i put start time 5:00 and finish time 15:15 as i added my break onto my shift.

Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Re: hours question?
Really ? I worked an extra hour a week or so ago, claimed it but it's not been paid. There's an o/t "ban" at my DO at mo'. I'm thinking when I do go back to delivering (rehab at mo'), they'll just say "you're too slow, not paying o/t when you should get it done in x hours".Pat Ostman wrote: They must pay you what you worked, simple as that

Re: hours question?
Being new to the job, I believe your overtime does not come out of the depot budget, as your "cause" will be "training" on the overtime docket. If you need time above your contract hours in a few months time, your cause will likely be "prep" or "ext del" with the likely "+m/r" for your extra 10 mins meal relief entitlement once you hit 7/9/11 hours, which is taken from the depot budget.
Do not let your line manager and the depot manager play you for a fool, keep a diary of your daily hours (including any extra meal relief entitlement). Overtime payments on your wageslip are paid a week in arrears, so if you do not see them, you need to nag your lino (while having your diary to hand) and get the overtime claimed as "belated."
If it still does not show, you should join the CWU (if not a member already) to get your depot rep involved and start the grievance procedure against whichever level of depot management is refusing your overtime payments.
Completing your round is not compulsary, if it is going to take you beyond your contracted hours. The sooner you can get into the habit of seeing your lino BEFORE you start delivery, to say you cannot complete without overtime (if you want it, otherwise lino can try and find someone else to do the "cut off" section of mail/parcels you cannot deliver), the better. While new, the chances are they should be lenient with you, but officially going past contract hours needs to be authorised by your lino so they can inform the depot manager and for you to get paid the overtime.
Good luck!

Re: hours question?
I'll do that in future, rather than "extended" as I've claimed before (and been paid), thanks. Mind you, with this o/t "embargo", that probably still wouldn't wash.Brains wrote:Book the OT as `New to Duty`not excess.
Not too bothered about it at mo' as one day last week I was late into the DO they sent me to while on rehab after 1½hrs of "words" about them expecting me to work a longer day (extra travelling) at my own expense (originally refused to pay mileage/fares, they've now agreed to pay after speaking with the union rep - coincidence ?!). If they pay that as a full day, I'll forget about the hour they "owe" me.
Thanks for that tho' it's not likely to be an issue for some time as I can't go back to my DO while on rehab, and the (3 week) rehab program isn't been adhered to. Stuck there, no cycle deliveries, for forseeable future.IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:Being new to the job, I believe your overtime does not come out of the depot budget, as your "cause" will be "training" on the overtime docket.
