should i work for royalmail?

It is a crap job...but so is the one you're in and 90% of all the other jobs most people do.
You might love it...it's particular brand of crappiness might suit you.
10 years is a fair bit of seniority/loyalty/service to give up though.

We really should have an, "Introduction To Royal Mail" section on the home page. Nothing so drastic as "Abandon hope all ye who enter here", but the same question crops up on a regular basis (and gets much the same replies).
Can't say I blame anyone for asking but they can't be expected to trawl back through months worth of posts.

If you're interested stv ask them what sort of contract they'll offer you. At the moment we're only recruiting 22.5 hr contracts on a rolling 12 week basis. Lots of changes going on though and you never know give it a couple of months and they might HAVE to start recruiting properly.

Its a tough one to give up a 10 year job and take a partime RM job.

Edit "gut" should read "guy". Mind you a few porkers at my place

If you worked for 10 years and the job is secure i'd stick with the job you got. Their is no guaratees you like RM'S job, you'll probably start part-time and probably stay part-time. And with laws changing you could even work for 2/3 years and lose your job anyway. Look at your whole situation before you'd like to join RM.
If my friends were wanting to join RM i'd try and talk them out of joining unless they were really desparate.

I bet a large majotity of these people that are advising no will still be doing the same in 5 ,10 and 20 years time . They will let lifes oppotunities to get out of RM just pass them by , I wonder why .

This is just my opinion , out in the freash air for 5 hours with no boss on your shoulder , Nearly on £9.00 per hour for unskilled work , no nasty chemicals to work with , no dirt or grime ( unless you stand in doggy do do) , no tedious clock watching , getting paid for keeping yourself fit ( how much is that worth ) and now through modernisation we are getting the tools ( trolleys etc ) to make our job even easier . All Royal Mail have done is ask us to work the hours we are paid for and some people are really bitter about it .

We do work hard probably one of the hardest in UK employement but there is one or two pluses if you haven't got blinkerd vision .

Agree - this is a canteen on the internet so your bound to get people complaining its human nature. But I still really enjoy this job its the best one I have ever had.

Alot of people would leave RM if there were jobs out there, high unemployment and loads of people chasing every job is the reason most people will stay with RM, for now anyway
