The new uniform bright red jacket and lovely grey trousers ,its bad enogh beeing a posty nowadays ,but to be walking about in that get up! Whats wrong in simple navy combats ,navy polo and harrington? Why do we not get a say on uniform , another mess from the guys from the top.

I quite like the new uniform, just wish our office could get it!

I just wish they would supply us with a decent waterproof jacket. The hood on the new one is utterly useless as it was on the previous one.

It must be costing a fortune to give all staff this new uniform.If we are privatised, conceivably the uniform will be scrapped in favour of the new owners livery .Add on the huge amount of money being spent on vans and trolleys for Bark and Poop and one could start to think that it is more for accountancy purposes. :dcfo :ncfo :vcfo

My partner got me a decent jacket as a present after I kept moaning about how the RM one was complete shite.... its hugely expensive so i only wear it when I really need to i.e. cold, windy and raining mostly but its the complete dogs danglies bar none!

Wonder if RM could 'RE-BRAND' some Arcteryx stuff coz with their buying power i.e. we'll have 150,000 in red please should be able to get a decent discount price

Nope, for the first few years of Hill's RM ( 1850's / 1860's ) the coats were red, but with the dust, etc, they soon became not so red, hence the switch to navy blue

And they were known as Robin redbreasts, which is why you have Robins on christmas cards, at least if you believe Stephen Fry on QI that is

further proof is found in the inside rear jacket cover of "Royal Mail: The Post Office since 1840" by M J Dalton ( Athlone Press, 1985 ISBN 0-485-11280-9 ), and I quote...

The illustration on the front of the jacket is from the cover of the song "The Postman". It was foundthat the familiar Scarlet uniform was easily soiled and in 1861 it was replaced by the blue outfit....

and there is also the Thre Post Boys pub in Wrotham, and it's sign

Indeed. I look at the money wasted in our office alone this year. New uniform for around 150 staff. 20-25 new vans (Bippers) with posties doubled up taking longer than if doing solo and both claiming OT due to extended delivery. No wonder the profits are down.
