Lieu Days

I have three lieu days to use up and asked my manager if I could carry them over to April as my husband works in Saudi and I only get to see him every 15 weeks. As my leave starts on 25th April I asked for 21-23rd April as my lieu days as he arrives home on 21st but my manager flatly refused me to carry then over so I know have to apply for unpaid l
eave in April and use my lieu days in March when I dont want to!

Can you advise?

You can carry 5 days over to the next year and no manager can stop that.
But are the dates you want full?
Tbh it wouldn't hurt for a bit of compassion from him would it ffs?

Slightly Related Subject (didn't really want to start a new post) Any idea if you can get paid for any untaken leave instead of losing it? You know the situation leave year running out too many days to carry over, pissing down with rain and you don't fancy sitting at home with the missus out at work. I know some companies used to do it but I'm guessing there's probably some European Legislation stopping it now.

as far as i know you can carry upto 5 days over,ive carried 3 over,getting time off is a nightmare in my office and theres only just over 30 of us work there,same old story not enough spare staff.promised my 8 year old son i would take him to the 2012 london olympics,if i dont get the time off will have it unpaid or will get my manager to tell my son that his dad cannot take him :dcfo

I don't think there's any EU legislation about it. You do have to take 4 weeks leave every year, under the Working Time Regulations 1998, unless you agree in writing to voluntarily forgo your statutory entitlement - if you want to carry some over into the next leave year.
But Royal Mail does not allow you to get paid for untaken leave. You should not lose it.
Some posters on here have said that their DOMs have let people on AL come in on OT. But that should not be allowed officially.

Our last wonderfull goverment changed the laws on holidays. You are not legally entitled to get paid for any days outstanding (unless you leave the company you work for). RM are actually being kind in allowing us to carry any days over as that is now not allowed. Legally it is a case of use them or loose them.

But you are allowed to carry 5 days/1 week, or more, with Manager's agreement, into the next leave year.

It's not a matter of being kind, it was in the Way Forward Agreement 2000, negotiated with the CWU.

There is another post recently that mentioned u can carry up to 5 days to next year and more if have managers written permission. AS i still have week (5 days) from last year (2009-2010) and got another week from current year i asked lino abt carrying it over. He said i wont lose it and dont worry abt it.

Reminds me of my 1st year in RM didnt get any holidays cos they didnt give me the holiday forms. Then in second year cos i had so many weeks carried over they essentially gave me first choice of holidays. Fortunately for the other guys+gals(especially those with school kids) in the the office i dont go on holiday during peak season.
