Getting a transfer

Hi all,

Just wondered whether anyone had any advice on getting a transfer?

I applied for one a few months ago, and am meant to be on a waiting list, but as yet have heard nothing since.

Looking at the RM employee jobs website, there are some posts up for people in that area to become deputy managers, which says to me that they're going to need some posties to replace them, providing they don't just increase the workload/postie...

I spoke to someone in our office a few days ago, who said the best thing to do was to speak to them and keep bugging them till they transfer you (which is what he did to transfer to our office). This is not easy for me to do unless I can get a phone number for someone useful in the office I want to transfer to as it's 150 miles away...Anyone by any chance have a phone number for the Chester Delivery Office Manager?

Anyway, any advice greatly appreciated :)

if you have a union rep in your office get him to phone the rep in the office you want to go to that way you will know if there is any jobs going allso try phone the office and talking to the dom but with all the changes going on it does not look good for transfer now but just keep trying it took me two years to get my transfer and that was to office over 4oo miles away good luck

You will normally only get a Transfer if the Business needs it. They will pay no heed to your personal preferences.
If you manage to get one be very careful what you're offered. Particularly if they mention things like "Temporary" or "We'll sort that out when you get here.."
Get your new contract in writing and read it Before you move office. It's often out of the frying pan and into the fire. Good Luck.

At the very least the office where you want to go will have to have vacancies, but even if they have with all the current reorganisation going on even if the D.O manager would like another body, it will be up to the area manager whether the transfer can happen. If there are any issues which make a transfer neccesary get on to ATOS, as they can help things greatly. Transfers, even FT transfers are still happening, so persevere and if you have any mitigating reasons why the transfer is essential,use ATOS to make sure RM know. Good luck.

I've got the DSM's phone number

I no longer have the D.O. phone number. Deleted it as I no longer needed it after having not been there for a while.

If I have to go there again for an ATOS meeting in the near future, I'll try to get a contact for you :)

That sounds like a good idea, will probly try it although it will give the rep more ammo to hit me with regarding trying to make me join the union ...

I have no intention of waiting around too long - if they don't offer me a transfer in the nearish future I will just quit, therefore any contract is better than nothing.

If you do get offered a transfer - check the offer carefully. It'll probably be a part time job offered! You've gotta watch these sh*ts.
