recorded delivery

Post by estelle »

not sure best place to post this - but here goes.

I sold stuff on ebay in December. I sent everything out by recorded delivery because whilst I knew we were really busy, I needed was proof the items had been received. Of the five items sent, four have been signed for and feedback given. The fifth item is still progressing through the network.

Now, I haven't had any contact from the buyer to suggest they haven't received the item (without a signature being obtained), but equally, I've not been given any feedback to suggest they've received it either.

It's been a month since it was sent, so question is, do I do anything or wait until the buyer raises a dispute?

Odd one, but I want to protect my 100% rating.

If you have a copy of the tracking number you can check yourself on RM's website if it has been delivered. I sell on eBay and always send my packages by recorded delivery. I've been stung so many times by people saying they haven't received their item, but since only using recorded delivery, complaints have stopped completely.

that's the thing, I did send it recorded, tracking shows it is being progressed through the network - and it's been like that since the 14th December.

Guess I'll do nothing until the buyer contacts me.

It has probably been delivered but not updated on the system. Royal Mail expects postmen to ring in and advise of whether their specials, recordeds and signed fors were delivered, but there are some such as myself who will not give that expectation the light of day. I have a card sat on my side right now that I haven't taken back yet - I'm on leave, dontcha know? I had no time within my duty span to return it, and I'm not spending my own credit giving them the info. No doubt I'll get a telling off for it when I get back - uber .

that's my thinking - trouble is, I know this item couldn't be put through a door, it was quite heavy and too big for a letterbox.

I'm suspecting I should have charged more and used parcelforce after all.

i dunno, I should have thought this through a little more.

There are many reasons for the system not being updated.
I would relax and assume the parcel was delivered until you find out otherwise.
I would imagine the buyer would have contacted you by now if they hadn't received it.
Buyer feedback is hit or miss at the best of times...i've sold stuff before and never heard from the buyer again.

good to know, I did figure that it'd be a case of they'd contact me if not received, but didn't want to presume anything.

Last time I sent something by recorded delivery and didn't get a signature despite knowing the item had been received, I wasn't happy as I actually needed the signature to prove they had the letter. Oh well. I guess these things sometimes won't work out in favour of the customer *yes, I'm a postie just in case you wondered

I'm assuming that your not a 'blue shirt'..... might be worth ringing the DO of the area the item was sent to and ask them what our own internal tracking system (Track and Trace) says. It (potentially) gives much more useful information.

As for the reason its not showing as 'delivered' it could be 1 of a thousand reasons.... from it was delivered but no signature was sought to the postman/woman losing the signing card to the tracking number being written incorrectly on the card etc etc.

As I said find a friendly DOM and see what Track and trace says!

Good luck!

I wouldn't worry about it - I checked a recorded packet I got signature for just before xmas and it still says processing through network and I know I got a siggy for it. I came across the partial FL at the bottom of my storm proof coat pocket and thought I would check the system.

If your still concerned why not send a message to the customer making sure they recieved it ok? If they havnt get onto customer services and claim for the lost item. If no ones complained its probably arrived to be honest and the system has not been updated.

never message a buyer like this!
If they dont get it then they will contact the seller
you dont want to flag up to a buyer that you dont have proof the item was delivered
unfortunatly, too many posties dont understand the importance of scanning/getting signatures on items
they are under the impression as long as its delivered its all fine.
