Two posties to a van? Can someone please explain the basics

I understand that we are supposedly going to get new vans that hold two trolleys? And these things are supposed to hold all the mail for your walk?

What concerns me is waiting around after I've finished so they can take back the trolley at the end of your shift, so I'm assuming you'll have to go back to the sorting office too?

And will the driver be responsible for just two walks worth of parcels now?

No, you and the driver will be responsible for the parcels on your new walk that's why you are both getting trolleys

The basics are that 2 posties share a van and together complete both assigned duties between them. They also deliver all tracked, specials and oversize parcels. The idea is to use golf trolleys to take the weight off the shoulder.

HCTs will be used for deliveries within 1 mile of the delivery office only.

Yes at my DO we will both be expected to return to the office unless you are on different finsishing times.

On heavy days you will be lucky to get all of one loops mail into the light weight trolley bags so a full walks mail is being a little optomistic .

The waiting around comes not at the end of your duty but when you finish your loop and your partner is still doing theirs and vice versa . If you get the same planner that we have had the only way you will clear is if you work overtime . Since our November revision we have only cleared on time twice . Last week a lot of our office decided enough is enough and stopped working overtime , sadly everything is now falling apart .

thats the problem in our office. there are roughly 8 town rounds and not a single guy on them drives...the mind boggles

You will be suprise,if you have 'any' postie who drives a car then they will be expected to drive a van.
Either that or they get shipped out and drivers shipped in.

It is amazing that our leaders/management are so stupid or think they are clever.

The model might have been successful in countries where the mail volumes in general is not that huge or where the people have a life and go out shopping from time to time or in a country where every man and his dog does not send crap through the post trying to sell carp to others. And as for D2ds, a lot of progressive countries in Europe will not entertain people being forced to take crap through the letter boxes - and the only way out is a complicated 'opt out' procedure with threats/disincentive of losing impt mail.

Moreover, the management chose to trial the system in areas of relatively low volumes, relatively flat terrain and unrepresentative areas of the country.

Then comes the planners and 'lap dog' DOM that are too afraid to tell their bosses that the system will not work. Sometimes, it is as if the DOM dont actually work in the same offices as the postmen.

Mine spends a lot of his time doing the same job as a postman - sorting, delivery and even driving; and he knows the problems but yet at WTLL he comes out with crap...

The rumoured cessation of the most ridiculous programme that the RM/CWU management team have ever tried to inflict on us, has obviously to be welcomed, but sadly, I think there's no end to their nonsense, and their manic pursuit in getting one man to do the work of two, will go on, and on, and on, and on, and on, and on......
