stage 1 interview
Im in for a stage 1 interview on Friday. Got signed by GP off back in October for 5 weeks with tendonitis/tinosinovtis in my elbow. Did 5 weeks rehab on return(part walk and building up to full) Back on full duty now. My GP said the tendon trouble will probably return so dont want a stage hanging over me. Problem is I dropped out of the union last year(cos they sh*t on us left, right, and centre) and the rep said he wont represent me at the stage interview unless I rejoin the union. I told him to ram it. So has anyone got any advice, and who could I take in with me?

Better to use a sock with button eyes on than the union.

Welcome to the forum Tiger
Even if you re-join the CWU there is not much they can do at a stage 1 as, like it or not, its just RM routine
Ask for a print out of your sick record and a copy of any notes that may be taken and just take it on the chin. However if this condition re-occurs and you move onto a stage 2 you might wish to think a bit harder about getting some Union support.
Best of luck

Re: stage 1 interview
The obvious answer would be a fellow worker or work colleague but you should note that with regards to disciplinary or grievance hearings, there is no obligation on a worker’s chosen companion to agree to accompany him or her to a disciplinary or grievance hearing. Employers should not pressurise a chosen companion to refuse or accept a worker’s request. Where a worker who is asked to act as a companion expresses concern about doing so, the employer should make it clear that there will be no adverse consequences for him or her of acting as companion.
Equally, union officials are not obliged to agree to represent workers at disciplinary or grievance hearings. Unions often require a minimum period of membership, or may assess whether or not a grievance is well founded, before agreeing to provide a companion.
If a worker has difficulty in finding a willing companion, the employer may consider postponing the hearing if this is likely to enable the worker to obtain representation, while avoiding undue delay.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Afraid its true ! Stage one and two no grounds for appeal, only at stage 3 dissmissal.dados wrote:take it on the chin, stage 1 is nothing, come back when you reach the giddy heights of stage 3
All managers will enforce stages as they are under extreme pressure from above. If/when it gets to stage 3 you have clear grounds for appeal and then you need your union rep, for this just take a colleague in off the IPS

Re: stage 1 interview
We all like to have a pop at our union officials, locally and nationally, personally i think the national lot are not worth a toss as they are clearly out of touch with reality. Billybob more interested in trying to save the world when we are in the s**t here and now. Locally our reps are not to bad, they know the attendance and conduct code and do a reasonable job with their representations. The union subs are a small price to pay for this as well as the other benefits such as legal and medical. You are entitled to be peed off with the union but now you need them, and want representation and advice and the rep has declined i dont blame him. . I'm sorry but i dont have much sympathy for your sort.

I would have.
Not on behalf of the CWU....but as a colleague.
I think there are enough tossers in this company without us starting a lynch mob every time a non-member turns up.
Any non-members reading this thread are really going to want to join now aren't they?.
Does anybody actually know why unions were formed...and why they are dying on their arse?.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: stage 1 interview
Oh I know all right and I know there are a lot of people in the job who don't want to know about the union until they got a problem. Looking at what was said in the posting I inferred that the bloke approached the rep and not the other way round as it is unusual for reps to be told by the manager. Whatever the case I still would not represent him.fishtank wrote:lekker wrote:Hell -fire I wouldn't represent you
