ex employee job application

hi there,
was looking for some info, i worked as a postman for 8 years between 1992 and 2000 and enjoyed it thoroughly.however i had some personal problems which made me unwell
hence i left in 2000. i wasnt sacked but had attendance issues in my last year of working prior to this the first 7 years i was hardly off.
can someone tell me firstly how long do rm keep my record on file and secondly would it be a waste of time reapplying? saw vacancies near where i stay.
open to all suggestions! cheers.

I am not sure about today but i had a mate who left in the late 90's with a bad sick record and could not get back 5 years later. He was taken on by Parcel Force though, they did not care about it.

i've been back now for a year after a 10 year gap. i did 5 years last time round. i had to leave as i was on the point of smashing my at the time dim in the face, but they still took me back on . think seriously before you come back, the jobs a total disaster nowadays and im constantly looking for something else...good luck.

I would read the forum a bit before you set your heart on rejoining! Its not the job it used to be and seems to be going down hill rapidly.... Sorry to sound negative but its the truth!

No idea how long they keep records for but it wouldn't surprise me if that at a minimum its 10 years.

BTW The job has changed dramatically since 2000 you would not recognise it now:

3:30 to 6 hour deliveries in Towns

1 delivery not 2

8 bags a day instead of 1 or 2

doing parts of another duty before yours.

6 D2Ds done in 6 days not 3 in 2 weeks.

No night shifts.

It really is a different world to the one you left.

We have a recent newstart who had previously worked as a postie.
He seems to be coping with all the major changes we have had over the past few years.
The basics are the same......you take a letter......you stick it through a letter box.
The job is a lot more physical and the banter is still shite.

jobs not that bad.

good points
+ decent pay for 'unskilled' work. (see what the retails workers get)
+ stick within H&S guidelines, do the job the way we are supposed to do & its easy.

bad points
- u deliver more junk than real mail
- u dont get paid for delivering junk
- dom will try to abuse u cos he (or she) thinks ur new & dont know better
- later start times & finish times
- heavier workload due to 'failing' mail volumes
- u are excepted to work every hour u are paid (no flyers)
- u'll be p/t on say 25 hr contract????

Being part time is not much better than dole tbh

Part time in RM look at the s**t they get.
Part time say in a supermarket,you no doubt get s**t but not as much as here,you're also not out in the weather which is getting worse and worse.
Pay per hr is less but if you've kids tax credit will help.
