I'm on a huge round this week, takes a good 4:30 hours minimum using a trolley. Took me over 5 hours on Thursday. Quite a lot of 3 story flats so they take forever. Flats are crazy at the minute.

I've gone over my time every day so far this week, which is fine, and I've got no problem with that.

However, tommorow, I HAVE to be back at the office for 1:00. No if's, no but's, I quite simply have to be home within my hours (as I have a prior arrangement), the problem is that it's going to require me to leave some mail, as there is no way on this earth I'll be able to get back for 1.

It would be fine if I arrived in the office and my fitting was 95% complete, and I could just band up, find a driver and get a lift out, but as you know it's RM we're talking about here, a 50% completed fitting if your lucky, packet bag still hanging up, and waiting an age for a driver. I didn't get out of the office for 10:30, despite arriving in at 8!

I await the response of management when I inform them tommorow.

Just tell them, then keep telling them until they listen. They will try to bullsh*t you. Management's responses to possible cut-offs are fairly predictable (it's because they can't actually manage). They will try to intimidate you into taking it all out first so they can leave you in the sh*t and then get you on wilful delay if you bring it back. Then they'll move to stage two desperation where they beg you to take the overtime. Then, as a last resort, they'll ask you to stream, i.e. take the first-class mail out. So long as you can say no vehemently enough times, and make it clear that you're leaving some in, you'll be fine. I had it the other day, they go through different moods when they try and lay out each option as well. Intimidation, followed by whiny begging, followed by the desperate, soulless pleas where their mouth is begging but their eyes are cold.

I'll be cutting off tomorrow as well despite telling my lino I'd be happy to book it - I've changed my mind. Which is my democratic right, of course. For some reason, my attitude towards the company, the managers, and everything that goes with it, has become desperately cold. I walk in each morning and find myself literally not giving a flying frak about it. It means nothing to me, be it the money, the people, anything. A guy handed in his notice the other day and I was filthy jealous of him. I know I could do it myself but I'm not a quitter, I don't mind being shown the door but I've got a horrible character trait that stops me from ever quitting. It comes from a couple of years back when somebody called me a quitter disparagingly - I haven't been able to quit a god-damned thing since.

i am on a 36 hr contract,and have worked 31 hours in just 3 days this week,crazy crazy crazy,i am sick of working these long hours.trouble is we have no rep in our office and im affraid management get away with all sorts.we only have approx 26 duties in our office.if you work to time its like commiting a crime you are made to feel guilty,like your letting everyone down.trouble in our office no one sticks together,moan amongst themselves and thats about it .we only have 8 full time duties ,and most of them are finished before me,and im not slow.after 15 years in the job ive never felt so depressed.i know my customers very well,there not happy when other people do my round trouble is ive been threatened with other crappy duties if i work to my time.

Great management. I'd have laughed and called his (utterly nonsensical) bluff. I see these managers have got so drunk on their power that they now think they can also override employment law. They're not even real managers, for frak's sake. Just wannabes. Real managers manage.
