Billy Hayes...is he for real?

I wouldnt normally admit to actually spending time reading the "courier" or "voice" mags but was fuming when i flicked through pages of the latest Voice. Billy Hayes letter on the second page ...what an insult. He rambles on about the recent demos in London and i quote "it was not a pleasant experience having no access to food, water, toilets or shelter on a bitterly cold day etc.etc" FFS. YOU ACCEPTED a deal with ROYAL MAIL for us delivery staff without even thinking about what we have to put up with EVERY WORKING DAY!!!! You really have no idea what goes on . With the increase in delivery spans, you obviously think its ok for us but not something you would tolerate yourself. Im totally disgusted!!

totally agree but for one small point.the membership accepted the deal not hayes.

im in agreement with that also the same with they way forward agreement ive not met anyone that actually voted for it but ive met plenty that voted against it perhaps we should conduct or own poll on here

Well according to Dingo, this site is not representative of the the feeling of the workforce - however we each come from different parts of the delivery network, he comes from just the one and I suppose it is debatable whether he was actually on delivery.

I don't think it was rigged I think the outcome was as expected.

However, I do think the approach to the ballot and the dissemination of the agreement and its impact (beneficial or not) was certainly worthy of being questioned. Something I have not shied away from. In fact in retrospect that may be the reason for the 60,000 who did not vote.

It wasn't rigged.
It was manipulated in a totally legally.if morally questionable way.
No-one will admit to voting for any agreement..that's human nature...it doesn't mean they didn't.
Polls are pointless unless you have some magic way of forcing people to tell the truth.

Manipulated is a good word for it fishtank , of course we shall never know who voted what at the end of the day and yes it is easy for someone to say on here they voted no i agree . Sadly im afraid apathy has taken over much of what was a strong and solid union i can remember many local disputes that were supported by surrounding offices being resolved in a matter of hours ,now if a neighbouring office went out id doubt id even get to hear about it let alone support it. The feeling in our office is the CWU now has little or no punch and in our office at least rely on its own members to sort out so called trivial matters so that the reps can concentrate on going out with drivers to see who is working to their time or who is finishing early. one eye on the revision methinks

I was naive, i read the missive that came in the post, with a recommendation to vote yes, so I did.... At the time we had no local rep.

And there is probably the answer to why this agreement was accepted.
No fiddle.no indoor staff screwing delivery..just a reliance on the naivety and lack of information of the membership.
This time they even got a roadshow and a DVD.

I agree with that.

Actually only a very small minority get the £20.60 even if pro-rata as you have to be within the Delivery Function to get it. So only the locker staff, callers office and purely collections staff now get the Del Supplement but never did D2Ds.

The other functions get their own supplements and in some cases have had to give up their rights either partially or fully, to get their own supplements. Also job loses within those functions will be on a percentage basis higher than we will probably experience in deliveries. After all delivery will always be proportionally more labour intensive than the other functions as they will always need boots on the ground unless they build a robot capable of doing the same job.

well i am non delivery staff but i don't get the 20 quid so that arguement falls flat on its face.there is a world outside of the delivey network you know.
