Christmas Shambles(who will be held accountable)

This christmas has been the biggest shambles in my 18 years service.Here are the main points for me.

1.Lack of staff to cover spare vans.(lack of staff all year round aswell)

2.Vans that are spare not taking any specials or tracked.(so driver have to do them all,and then a 4hr rural)

3.Mail coming late from m/c's making late out on delivery.

4.Being questioned about o/t every day.(ffs its christmas)

5.Christmas eve being the busiest day so far.(thanks RM i dont really want to get home to see my kids)

If this is the future comrades i fear for us.Impossible workloads and threats when you can't complete.I personally can't see it getting any better,in fact I see strike action looming.

If I could add a couple.

A complete failure to anticipate the massive growth in packet traffic including tracked and registered .
A complete failure to allocate increased resources to reflect the increased workload and time required to deal with this growth.
Still local management maintained it's shockingly high level of inadequacy

The complete lack of preparation for the snow should be added as well really. If a manager somewhere had actually considered the fact that it might snow in winter then there could have been a plan for equipment and extra manpower? We are on our second round of snow and iam still waiting for boots i ordered almost 2months ago not alone spikeys!

Complete lack of staff has got to be another one. Even during xmas pressure and with the snow delays the temps in my office are sorting packets and letters not helping the poor postman or drivers.

This hasnt effected my DO specifically but bringing in Park and Loop in some DOs before Xmas? the stupidity astounds me.....

And the second time was today on all that ice and 5 hrs worth of delivery Of which only i cut

The figures from online retailers must have been known to RM.

I went in this morning with the intention of telling my lino that I'd be ending my delivery at 11.50am no matter what.

Unfortunately, there wasn't enough mail for me to have to cut-off, though I suspect the situation may change somewhat when next Friday comes around having had a three-day week. The managers were (allegedly*) going around trying to tell people that, although we started today as if it was an early day (at two hours before our weekday start time), we would nevertheless be finishing as if it was a normal day - i.e. two hours later, thus grabbing an extra and FREE two hours out of anyone stupid enough to believe them.

(* - I regurgitate hearsay and rumour here so I hasten to add that it is an alleged story rather than something I can substantiate, but I have no reason to doubt my co-workers, especially given that it was cross-substantiated by a number of individuals who do not interact with each other, a couple of whom I would trust intimately).

They have played a blinder for the Goverment.
Who can argue that Royal Mail should stay in public hands after that performance?

We worked a normal day except we did an hours OT by starting at 5am. So my finishing time was 13.45, which i cut off at. How did you manage a 12.00 noon finish

The problem isn't one of public or private ownership.
The problem is woefully incompetent management.
How high up the management food chain do you have to be,to believe privatisation will be a good thing for RM?

My DOM is not exactly impressed with the service from the M.C to our D.O

Today MC sent mail down that was not going to arrive before the cut off time for put in place by the cluster manager for DOMS to have mail arriving for IPS/Prep/delivery.


Callers office opened 90 mins early but still shut at usual time of 1PM. Since Monday last week its been open untill 3PM. The last day of pre Xmas collection it shuts at 1PM. I would have thought 90 mins at the end of the day would be better for the customer

The fecking management will come up smelling of roses as normal, as we are all bone idle, soft, namby pamby poofters who are scared of ` a bit of snow` and us grunts will get all the s**t as usual when Tiny feckin Tarquin doesn't get his feckin x box on Crimbo day.

No-one that's who, welcome to the future and where did the £20million extra come from? That was put into the system to help clear the mess? Perhaps they could of used it to keep open some of the mail centres and keep the staff!
