Xmas Traffic Volumes.

Not sure if this is covered else where but cant see it ?

This Christmas been totaly shocked as buy almost every one in our office of Volumes.
Cards well down on previous years,packets whilst busy not excessive ,on par with last year ,perhaps up a bit ,but letters way down.

Absorbstion cancelled for Xmas period only ,been finnishin on time ,or a few minutes early or max 5- 10 minutes over on the odd couple of days.

Previous years gone way over by 1-2 hours .

Good for us short term but long term not ,as for RM to loose so much volume at peak must be scary.Previous years had casuals in for 2 weeks before Xmas this year none ,and coping with less staff,and we are still having our breaks before we go out .

Not even needing extra bag drops.

The scary thing is absorbstion when it comes back the size of it .


If volumes are not down then their must be horrendous back logs at mail centers ?

Very heavy with cards and letters at my office. I've never seen so many small packets, each walk is getting at least 3-4 packet bags every morning. I reckon your office must have a backlog hidden somewhere.

im a floater and the last week ..has been fairly light everyday .compared to the last few months ..when the frames were rammed nearly every day

been heavy here but not as many cards, loads of packets, been going over by 30 mins to an hour a day

As I've said before (on other threads) my office is straining under the volume of cards and packets, not all duties are bad but most are. With the airport being closed I really don't know how there is so much mail

We have seen a massive increase in parcels and packets at our office in very snowy N.Wales, probably double what we had last year. Mail, on the other hand , is well down, the "cards" have simply not been getting through.There has to be a huge pile of it somewhere, though I have been told its not in our local MEC, so where is it all ?? We have not had a "non-delivery" day but an office 10 miles down the road have had 2 , the weather there is obviously very similar to ours, so why ??

we are getting hammered with both parcels and cards and hardly any flats which is the norm at this time of the year

This last week has been heavy for both my walk and the section I'm in...

Starting at 0800, been working to walk completion each day, with a finish time ~1630 Mon-Fri (0630 to 1415 Sat). Three full packet bags most days; horrendous amounts of flats midweek; ~3 boxes of sequenced letters per day; moderate amounts of cards (~3 per house per day average); silly amounts of "rubbish" like Clubcards/Britsh Gas/Water; thankfully just single Salvation Army envelope D2D. Longest week for me by far as a postie since the resign week back in April (when learning walk around tax year end on a walk with ~125 businesses!).

If things have gone to plan, the backlog of ~12 yorks of overweights/oversized packets for my section are being delivered today, but the snowfall yesterday morning only partially melted and its created an ice rink outside my home (might be different at depot down the hill).

I've got a hunch that our depot may be forced into another non-delivery day on Monday because of conditions, just like the 2-3 days (depending on walk conditions on 3rd day) of non-delivery in the last week of November while I was on holiday...

our office has only 30 walks ,we cleared the backlog fairly quickly,but be warned everyone there is still plenty of backlog outhere.i am on a 36 hr contract utter joke,have had approx 14 hours overtime.have approx 500 del points on my duty but the volume of mail i get is horrendus,1 day last week i had 6 packet bags.yesterday saturday my contract finish time was 13.12 i finished 16.33 and thats with just to quick 5 mins meal break with my extra meal break on i had 4 hours overtime.bosses just dont seem bothered as long as your frame is clear.think things will be just as bad whem P&l starts

Mail centre workers on here, can you tell us the sitch at your M.C.? I was in one yesterday and the gaffer said its the worst baclkog he has seen in 40 years, worse than any strikes. All due to weather, flight disruption causing mayhem.

as busy as it`s been we in our office feel theres massive backlogs . this is the 1st year we havn`t work the sunday before xmas to catch up with packets .

all i know for sure is come 14.30 on xmas eve i`ll be finished and heading to the pub .

Hasnt been too bad at all at my DO, only one day that was really busy and finished just over my time. I`m thinking there must be a backlog somewhere but am at a new office so cant compare with previous years
