Is this an abuse of the IWT?....

Post by GHOSTman »

When we all told our managers that we would be booking overtime, the response was...come and see us when you get back and we'll run it through the IWT with todays traffic figures. Mine came out acceptable, so got paid the OT I worked, some others though we're told they IWT says they should have less OT than they we're claiming. :arrrghhh

This is being done with full knowledge and permission of office rep and area rep. :arrrghhh

I thought the IWT could only be used as a resourcing tool?
Can it be used to decided on OT?

Should add as well, that if anyone says they only want to work their contracted hours all hell breaks loose with managers counting peoples mail, taking people in the office and telling them the IWT says you have enough time. And general harrasment.

Come on CWU...just give us some clear national guidelines on just what the IWT can or cannot be used for. If anyone has something in writing I'd be very appreciative.

Just use it against them, IWT - I WORK to TIME, from my experiance cut off for a few days and they will be begging you to do overtime.

I don't know why there is no clear official guidance from HQ on these abuses of the IWT...and their silence makes me nervous but why isn't your rep and your area rep aware of the garbage going on in your office?
Your manager obviously thinks you lot are a soft touch...it's up to your office to show you aren't with the help of HQ...or not.

It is a farce and it is a problem a real problem for some offices.
Area Reps and unit reps are letting it happen.
This is a serious problem and a case where I do doubt the union and it's leadership.
Staff and unit reps need clear guidance from above.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

The local, and area rep are fully aware of what is going on. Whether they are aware that what is being done is an abuse of the IWT is another question though...one of them seems a bit clueless, and the other is very comfortable in his position after many years. Our local rep actually goes along with the tool, and has always got a list of figures that he can whip out to tell us how long it should take to prep our delivery. :arrrghhh This co-operation by local / area rep is the thing that makes us nervous....at the back of your mind when you're standing up to the managers you can't help thinking....well if the rep is going along with it...are we going to be hung out to dry. Must admit I was half hoping they would challenge my OT today so I could tell them I'd only like to work my contracted hours for the rest of the xmas period. :nana

Unless he's counted every letter, flat and packet, worked out your call rate.and calculated your attendance call rate how could he even begin to guess how long you'll take.

Even then.traffic figures are too unreliable to be taken as gospel.IWT and geo route just give best guesstimates.

Why is your rep allowing this to happen?

This happened in our office today! Lino was putting in the traffic figures and then agreed 30 mins with one postie! Another one came in and was told to come back in the morning to see if he can book. Another Lino said " we get the figures at around 11:00am". Don't know if Rep knows this is going on, might have a word in the morning!

Exactly. Does the manager know how long it took people to open the door? Sign their name? Does he know how long it takes you to open those dodgy gates, carry your 6Kg up the steep incline?

That sounds like an abuse of more than the IWT.
I hope members of staff who haven't been paid for hours worked are now refusing O/T, irrespective of "all hell breaking loose".
