Embarrassed?

I don't know about anyone else but I'm starting to get really embarrassed working for RM. This used to be a job you could be proud of. Now if anyone asks what job you do all you do is get complaints..........missing post, late post, surcharges.
I'm glad I don't get public transport home from work anymore because as soon as you get on the bus wearing your uniform someone(they are telling there mates but its just loud enough so you are in earshot) always mentions the Post Office or they are waiting on something that was posted weeks ago.
And its gonna get worse.............a lot worse !

Spot on mate, this is reason why if preparing my escape route. Royal Mail and Post office counters are a disgrace and would never survive in a private sector. Lucky for RM its run in the public sector.

When out of uniform and the topic comes up I always tell people I am a milkman! Could not tell anyone I was a postman now as you say it's just too embarrassing!

Yes once a job I enjoyed doing and always seemed to be well respected by the general public . Royal Mail managment and Post.com have just about run it into the ground now . Where into day 4 of revision at Barrow -in- Furness and today it's just starting to turn from mild chaos to total chaos . People are still prepping their mail at 10.30 am .

I think this is a hidden agenda by the goverment and top management by making it look like theres no alternative but to privatise Royal Mail . It makes me sad that it's looking like the end of a well respected service .

Unfortunately i get the bus to and from work and believe me i used to wear the royal mail fleece to and from work but when ppl ask where there's mail and or any thing to do with the bus my mind just went blake and just tell them to ring there local office as there will know more than i do but with some ppl thats never enough. These days i wear my own coat the royal mail trousers and there boots and just hide the shirt as with it being a 30 mins ride home on a night you just get pissed off after work let alone during work

I used to be proud of wearing the uniform but as the job is getting more difficult to finish as well as later finishing times customers more and more are asking "have you seen the postie today". The answer to that would be "no" because the walks have changed making the customers even more confused on what time of the day they get there mail, if they get there mail at all.

I used to love this job, i really did but doms are being more forceful on staff, more customers complaining, and now i see school kids finish before me, getting tormented from them about where my black and white cat is today everyday .

I used to go that extra mile for the customer, but things have changed and now half the time from society you don't even get a thanks, even if a drivers lost and help them out, you get nothing. Xmas tips have fallen by the wayside as the customer doesn't know who to tip as its a different postie on his/her street everyday. Royal mail has lost alot of dignity towards its staff and customers.

The staff in the post offices are getting stressed out due to the fact that more and more PO's are getting closed and customers are waiting longer.

The badge means nothing now.

Ah I see you subscribe to the theory that if you work for a company that you either accept everything and don't try to improve it, or you ignore all things you disagree with and carry on working like an automaton.

One of the things I learnt in the forces is that only those that complain tend to have the commitment needed to improve any situation they find themselves in. As one unnamed General once said "If the grunts ever stop complaining you know you've got real problems."

George Orwell would be dismayed I believe if he'd had the chance to interact with people of a similar mindset to those who thinks its wrong to complain or moan about their situation.

I don't think you are mr current affairs regarding what this goverment is going to implement over the next few years . If there were any decent jobs to go to I think there would be a mass exodus of employees leaving Royal Mail . People working in the public sector are going to be absolutely clobbered over the next couple of years . Is this your advise to them .

I am of the same mind, it will be easy to say ,look at the system, how much better it will be when privatised.

but yes, it is a total embarrasment working for this company now! You end up skulking round the streets as fast as you can hoping nobody is going to collar you.the uniforms are
an embarrassment to wear,and to continually have to apologise to customers for the abysmall service we now' deliver' is an affront.I've even stopped polishing my shoes!

could this be a yes man (manager) who will be next for the chop or a bag carrrier who goes in and the round is fully preped and doesnt take specs , tracked , and packets , well back in the real world. you will see .
