Christmas Day Off

Can anyone explain as to why my Day off falls on Christmas day this year and I am not being credited with a Day In Lieu
Why Do I have to work 40 hrs that week and my colleagues only 32 .
I have been told this is not an Official Bank Holiday ........................

if you're on a rolling day off then u must be off on monday 27th wich is a bank holiday so you'll definately get that back in lieu not too sure about sat 25th, my view is that if you've worked a full week u should be entitled to it

Last year those due to have Saturday off (which I never get) did not get it back as its a non service day not a bank holiday.

Is it fair -No.

But thems the breaks - sometimes you win, sometimes life kicks you in the nuts.

Thats what sick days are for use them take a week off dont loose money.

We lost our Day off last Christmas too and where told that RM would rather upset 1 person in group of 6 rather than all 6.

Sorry - I don't understand this at all. If your day off falls on Good Friday, Easter Monday, Spring Bank Holiday Monday etc etc you get a Lieu day. Christmas Day is a Bank Holiday, so what's the difference?

If your day off falls on any non-working day, surely you get a lieu day?

I just don't understand this company, nor the union.

Because it is like a Sunday.
We're not working. We don't get a day back in lieu.

Your day off never falls on a Sunday.

I must be missing something here. Lets say that Royal Mail says right, you've all done so well that we are giving you Wednesday off. Everybody works 4 days that week, except those who's day off is Wednesday. Are you saying they don't get to have another day off, ie a lieu day?

Doesn't sound legal to me.

The only other option would be for the other 80%+ of the workforce to lose a days pay...it's called claw back.

Why would 80% lose a days pay? Why not simply add one lieu day to the holiday entitlement of those that are off that day anyway, like they do for other bank holidays.

a non service day is basically where RM say if you are due to work don't come in. Its not a holiday in any legal sense which means that those that already have it as a day off are not entitled (in law) to another day in lieu. Bank holidays are recognised legal holidays are you are entitled to 8 or 9 per year and that's why you get a day off in lieu if your day off falls on a bank holiday.

Its the same as if you work in a shop and they close early on Christmas eve you wouldn't get a half day in lieu if it was your day off.
