Two in one week.

Had two incidents brought to light in our office today.It seem two seperate posties have put parcels in wheely bins,and the binmans come and wallop there gone.Now one of the lads is a right numpty works all the hours in the day for the manager,the other is ok but he's wound management up in the past.Now the question is what will the outcome be,if it goes to a sacking the management will want to keep the one that does all the work,but you cant give one the sack and not the other.Hmmm interesting,

How can you support someone who goes out and doesn't do the job properly just to buy some time? They're the same people who boast that they can do any walk in two and a half hours. For some reason, management never finds it odd that they don't bring back a single parcel to the depot - ever. It's because they'll chuck them anywhere. And no doubt force RM to think that we're all lazy bastards because they can get finished by 12pm whilst we're still out at 1.30pm/2pm/2.30pm/10pm.

I didn't say i supported them...i just don't believe in calling for somebody's job because they did something stupid especially when you don't know the facts.

The ruling is quite clear now - no dropping anywhere - which has been reinforced time and again recently. Only a fool would drop a parcel now regardless of who you know and what has happened in the past - including garages, porches and relatives.

As to these two - well I wouldn't like to see anyone sacked and a serious warning should suffice but if they have signed the WTL sheet with the specific instruction regarding packages People have this misguided attitude that nobody is really bothered and it'll be let go but that was the old regime and this is the new.

It doesn't matter, we've all nearly had our arses burned but everyone should know after the initial stages in the job that you don't do stuff like this. If in doubt, p739 it - that's my motto. Even when people ask me to leave stuff here, there or everywhere, I try not to. Problem is they tend to get mardy, but it's a war of attrition and I'll try my best to uphold my personal responsibility on delivery, rather than rush and bungle the job like many do. These guys are no exception, although personally, if I was the decision maker, they would both be getting a serious warning with the clear and obvious point being made that they were drinking in the last chance saloon. However, this is RM and I think one or other of them will probably be in deep trouble, and on that logic, the same treatment should apply to both, hence 'sack them both'.

Only a fool would DV but you don't have to look that far to find those..
After all only a fool would consider delivering their parcels from the back of their car after their delivery..without the appropriate insurance.....or should that be only a self righteous fool...
Yes the rules have changed...No not everyone has got the message yet.
Hopefully no-one will have to lose their job before everyone does.

There's a difference between considering and doing. Some of us, rookies 13 weeks into the job, are amongst a select few who, through experience and making mistakes, do the job pretty much completely by the book (I only say pretty much because it's impossible to say for sure what 'by the book' is without knowing certain things). If a rookie after such a short time has enough of an insight to know not to do certain things then there are no excuses. And yes, that in my mind justifies a 'holier than thou' attitude. Personally, I have made several pretty big errors and learned from them. No-one is ever completely guilty. But I know for a FACT that there are dozens of EXPERIENCED postmen in my office, who should know much better, who DO know much better, who continue to deliberately circumvent the rules for the sake of 'doing a customer a favour' - aka doing themselves a favour.

I'm sorry but there's not a lot of sympathy to be had for people who continue to do that and potentially put their own job at risk in doing so. Nevertheless, in spite of that, I do have sympathy for them, I just think they need to understand that there are consequences and no amount of sympathy is going to change that. If you doorstep, if you 'do favours' for people, consequence MAY catch up with you. That is life, that is tough. If I was pulled up for something tomorrow I'd accept that it was all on my own head . . . which is why I don't do silly stuff any more.

Never put stuff in bins, they can easily get emptied. Don't leave parcels anywhere unless the customer has written in to specifically say you can leave it. If they are that bothered by it, they will write in, if they don't, then they can come and collect it. Simples.

Remember it is far too easy for your boss to sack you if you don't do your job properly and cut corners. You won't have a leg to stand on.
