Delivery Offices/MPUs – National Sortation Automation Deployment Guidelines Version 2 (Leadership Role)

Branches were advised in LTB 502/2010 covering the National Sortation Automation Deployment Guidelines for Delivery Offices that whilst the guidelines included reference to a Leadership Role further talks were due to take place to finalise the selection process for this particular job.

Those talks have now been concluded and the selection process which was endorsed by the Postal Executive on the 21st September 2010 has been incorporated into an updated version of the previous guidelines which should now be discarded. The Leadership Role includes a verbal and numerical assessment, formal meeting, supplementary training and additional self assessment questions over and above the selection process for standard CSS machine operators. It should be noted that the formal meeting is designed to be of mutual assistance to the individual and Royal Mail and does not affect the formal selection process. Also the numerical and verbal assessment is being tested out on some individuals to ensure it is set at the right level of competency.

‘The Person in Charge training’ is the standard training package given to any manager (or operator in receipt of leadership allowance when no manager is on site) to support the application of personal safety and security of the building.

The Leadership Role will also attract an allowance in addition to the Delivery Supplement and TPM Allowance. To be eligible to apply for this role you will need to be an OPG CSS Machine Operator and the role will only be applicable in MPUs where there is no Manager present on the shift.

It is important that Delivery Representatives read the Guidelines thoroughly to ensure that they are applied accurately and consistently in all locations.
