Or the model which they have adopted which means that all work which your mail centre has at 11 40 will go to the MPU which is mainly second class inward , 1st class intra , and some mail sort and local dsa. That now can be processed by the MPu from Midnight. Once one outward plan is fully rolled out this first pass will have appoxmately 60% of mail.

The rest of work which is distant and neighbour work ie coming from Manchester to London will not leave that mail centre till late at night and has to come to the recieving mail centre and then be broken down to the relevant post code. This will mean that it is targets to clear the mail centre around 4 40 in the morning and then get dispatched to the MPU. The MPU then has to batch sort the work with 3 passes each and then transfer to the satellite office.

So later finishes and later starts and longer saturdays were not given away by the union , it is a direct consequence of walk sequencing and there is no other solution.

Now lets have a look at door to door so we are going to lose time on ips and prep . Royal Mail`s orginal postion was that door to door is ordinary mail why should we now pay for it as work is now reducing and does not match 2006 levels, Of course the union was never going to accept it. However Royal Mail was never going to not have door to door into workload , quality was crap and when Royal Mail do not deliver door to door they not only have to pay comphensation for that failure but the priniting costs and call centre costs etc. I can understand some will argue that they have lost money but I do believe the deal on door to door intime will be recognised as a good deal.

Some wouldn't need to argue they had lost money - they have lost money. As for the bullcrap "RM were thinking of doing away with D2D" most weeks are now 3,4, or 5, the frames are bulging and we haven't yet hit the christmas pressure weeks when they are still committed to D2D and all for less money - oh yes the ordinary postie is really going to be grateful for that nugget. But to hear the likes of these tell "it was inevitable", "it has been on the cards for a long time", "it will preserve full time jobs" - pointless if you're already running at a 95% FT ratio - even more pointless if you're running at 60/40.

With the regards to 'the supplement will increse in future', it will very slowly the amount RM pays in delivery supplements will deminish rapidly!
eh... 3 x £20.60 = £61.80
2 x £20.60 = £41.20 + pay rises
That (at the original base) if you round it up is a 21p increase for every 1% inrease in pay.

Which, as the rest of my post alludes, the people actually doing the D2Ds have yet to receive any benefit from them, and more importantly, don't see any benefit in the future. Thats why the "trickle" of people leaving the CWU may soon change to a "flow" or perhaps a "flood" especially in the NE.

I have never been against the principle of CDVs or HCTs, the weight off the shoulder IS a good thing BUT should they really be the only options?

The ideal for the use of a vehicle would be a split delivery whereby there could be one delivery plus some packets/tracked/specials followed by the second delivery, allowing for a specific break at the depot......

Still, water under the bridge I suppose, it's all rush and no thought to the end product - which is a happy staff and a satisfied customer.

Because RM had already committed to the modernisation without consultation and the CWU said OK we have no choice..................pretty much EA at the highest level wouldn't you think - the very thing that brought about the strikes in the first place. "We might do away with D2D" say RM - oh OK we'll do 'em for nothing then...................................... . "We're a bit hard up as well" - right well we'll have a a three year deal with no pay rises to speak of.

Can i break a what now seems like a habit and support dingo here, a little.........Saying that we are opposed to mechinisation, does put us in the position of being technophobes. (not luddiets haven't seen anyone propose smashing up the machines) and was always a non starter.

However the point should have been made the consequencies mean a more physically demanding job, and that we had already increased delivery spans in 2004 and furthermore we had our retierment age increased to 65 to take effect in 2010, as well as demands to work quicker imposed in 2009 (pegasus & IWT)
RM's plans to make us walk faster, longer and to an older age may look great on a spreadsheet somewhere, BUT Their employees, CWU members ARE NOT PHYSICALLY CAPABLE OF DOING THIS!
