Walk Revision and Every 4th Saturday

How's this.....

I work in a very small office (about 25 rounds..). The ONLY way the new walk revision will work (with 1 in 4 sats off..) is to hire a couple more casual staff to cover the days off. No matter HOW my boss (a reasonable guy!) has put it through the computer, it comes out showing we need about 15 MORE hours. Needless to say, HIS boss is not happy, and has now told him we may NOT be able to have one in four saturdays off! Fantastic! The ONE thing in the new agreement that actually looked pretty good, and now they're going to take that away!

personally i would go for a 4 day week
dont forget its not what the mgmt want hold them to national agreement terms or put in disagreement
you do not have to accept a one way deal

Petty much the same scenario in my office. There is no way that the available hours/manpower split is going to produce a 1 in 4 Saturday with the reduced indoor work but......hey - not too disappointed, we pretty much knew from the word go that it was a non-starter unless we shed staff and that too was a non-starter......................... looked good on paper though, sounded good when they wanted a yes vote.....................but where are they now?

Ask for the 15 hours in this agreement its not about savings its about " Taking the weight of shoulders Not savings". Any meeting Ive been to planners etc are selling at as this and not savings....Yeah Righty Oh Then

We have 3 options...

1. We just stay the same 3.5 hour delivery span, but there will be less full time staff about 30% and the rest of the 70% will be part time.

2. 85% full time 15% part time with 1 and 4 saturdays off, but no mention about how long the working day is going to be.

3. 93% full time and 7% part time with 1 and 6 saturdays off, and still no mention on how long the working days are going to be. Probably 4.5 hour delivery span.

If the office decides to stick with option 1 then we don't go ahead with the longer delivery spans but in the long term RM will just implement this anyway sooner or later plus we don't get the bonus aswell. Spoke to a rep about why option 1 was put in the survey and he just wants a clear indication on who wants to be full time and who wants to be part time...still don't understand his logic thinking behind this.

No one wants to do these longer deliverys and i know most offices will struggle with the volume of work that will be loaded on to everyone everyday...with the longer deliverys you take everything, tracks, specials, packets, parcels and the mail. I really can't see this working, but the management have looked into every detail of the walks, but we'll wait and see when its live. They are wanting to push the revision in just before xmas...IMHO the worst time to put in a revision just because you don't know if its actually going to work or not.

to achieve option 2 and 3 how many redundancies are they talking about?

A simple answer would be...yes. Not sure how many redundancies though?

It will be the guys who are nearing retirement who will get the boot. A nice package will be the order of the day, and if i were in their shoes i would take the redundancy package and run...this job is for people who are reasonably fit now a days. I wouldn't of said that 10 years ago when duties were pretty much half the size and pouch boxes were with in easy reach. How times have changed!

same in our office 53 walks taking SIX out no one in four saturdays told us that to get that need more staff and have to work till 4 on the saturdays we are in. apparently it is only possible if feesable for your office in the aggreement f----ing great.

That is where you as an office get your input.
Do not as an office allow yourselves to be bullied by either management or the union into accepting an option that you don't want.
No matter what option you choose it has to be sustainable in the long term and no-one can be forced to change their contracted hours.

We were offered one work plan ( 1 in 6 sats off). Union has signed this off and it starts in 2 weeks. No alternatives offered, no opposition from union or within office, basically take it or er.. take it.
