Hi, our office is a joke.

We all lapse all the time, no-one really stands up to manager, we were told we had to agree to longs and shorts, or swings and roundabouts, we went for swimgs and roundabouts :crazy: :crazy: , this was from our rep...

Anyway, the packet template has been in our office for ages, manager would take a packet you've thrown out for a driver, make it go through the template, and make you take it out on your walk.....telling us the template doesn't lie etc...

I've used the length part of the template before to chuck stuff out, and last week noticed a few colleagues taking stuff out they shouldn't be, so I showed them the length part of the template...NO-ONE knew about this, suddenly smiling posties up and down the frames taking their overlength packets to the template and chucking them out....

This has gone on for a week, manager has now said the template is a guideline only, and we have to take things that don't pass the template test....how convenient?

So, is the template king? or is it just a guideline, I think I know the answer, I think the template is king, but our manager just says no. Rep just goes with what manager says.

There is a link on this forum to a scan of a H/S document that lists packet dimensions and weights that should be carried etc.

Remember downloading it. Can't find it just now though.

By template do you mean that yellow thing with a kind of cross in it? Load of shite it is you could fit practically anything through it.

Never really understood the packet debate really, dont care either what some template says. If i can fit it into my bag with the mail il take it, unless it gets too heavy - then the driver gets it, many a time a manager has said to me you will TAKE that packet, like its the most important thing in the world- my response is always the same if you can fit it in the bag it goes, if not it dont!

The length measurement is a little bar sticking off one corner of the template..

If the packet is longer than the template and bar, it is oversized..

Anyway, our union rep has also told us it's only a guideline, just as the manager said.....EVEN though for months the manager has been passing packets through the template and telling us we have to take them cos they go through. Seems it's a rule set in stone when it suits them, but becomes a "guideline" when it doesn't suit.

I totally agree with you, I've often taken things that won't go through the template.....or that measure longer than the length section...

BUT, what hacks me off, is that SOMETIMES I or other colleagues want to throw stuff that fits through the template, maybe cos it's a heavy day, or we got other bulky stuff on that same section of the walk,manager suddnely becomes very officious, saying if it goes through the template we MUST take it. So, we started using the length part of the template to our advantage....suddenly the template becomes a "guideline"...you see what I mean...

We'll give and take a bit, but must be on both sides, not how RM works though is it.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Yeah, same rep who kept telling us all that D2D's had to be prepped in our own time, before all this new agreement came in..... :roll: :Sick

I try taking him printouts from here, or copies of downloads, and he just gets very very defensive, stroppy with me, telling me he knows best....end of me tether :nervous

Got back to my fitting today to find the driver had chucked a recorded back on there. I'd finished, so I left it. The bastard was at least the size of two shoe boxes and would have filled a bag. But apparently it's too big for the driver. With his motorised vehicle that he does not have to carry on his back.

One thing's for sure, it's going back on for him tomorrow.

Don't worry about it - I had a similar experience but got it endorsed by a manager - when the driver threw it back I circled the endorsement and gave it back. Never saw it again.

I don't get it with SOME drivers,what's the issue with taking packets?....it's a big van FFS and if you run out of time to deliver them...you bring them back....it's not rocket science or is this just a screwing time out of the job issue?
I'm happy to deliver packets all day long....it beats walking the streets. :whistle

see if your line managers head fits in the template then take him out and leave him on some doorstep or better still notice left him and leave him in the cupboard until someones picks him up :Applause
