Parcels Marked "Fragile"

I had a few of these the other day and I have to say I was disgusted with the way they were treated. They were just chucked into the same packet bag, right at the bottom, and then had the next load of packets and parcels lumped on top of them. I don't know how I'm expected to maintain my own duty of care with items of this nature when they've already been treated like basketballs before I've even got a hold of them. Then of course there's the transition between the office and my pouch for when I pick them up - once again, because I'm unable to make the driver aware of these fragile items, there is no real way to ensure they are properly treated. Obviously it's no big deal, but I couldn't help but think last night who would be held responsible should a customer complain, especially if more than one of the fragile items ended up broken/whatever. It really irritates me sometimes how hopeless and naive policy is towards certain things. Take recordeds as another example. It's about time a general directive was issued to everyone that, when prepping, recordeds should be left face up on the fitting so that the duty man will be aware of them. Not so with some people - you'd not think they'd been postmen for twenty years and ought to know better. Personally, when I chuck somebody's walk out that's what I do. It makes sense, doesn't it?

I have to agree with the posters above I'm afraid.

Whilst I take every care I can with ones marked fragile (and take even more care with the ones that say please and thank you on them!), they don't pay anymore to send the packet than someone else who hasn't stuck fragile on the outside.

The only reason things get broken is poor packaging. I have seen things damaged whilst in the care of RM and they could probably have been avoided by being handled a little more carefully, loaded correctly but the crux of the matter is, they weren't packaged to withstand the rigours of the postal system.

I also don't know why people use parcel paper to wrap up flexible items like clothing. ALWAYS rips!

I remember someone once sent a bottle of champagne wrapped in nothing but brown paper, it was in bits by the time it reached my D.O. Are people really that stupid?

I recently laughed at the pathetic packaging on several items marked fragile, to the extent that I've made a point of bringing the issue up with each customer. If I received a fragile package in such packaging I would be straight onto the complaints section of the sender, asking them how exactly my fragile item is being protected from transportation damage, even more so if it is not sent with "specials" insurance!

I agree about "hidden recorded/internationals" not being blatently for my attention when I arrive at my frame. Knowing how many and where I have all my signiture items is a vital part of prepping any walk, but especially one that regularly has over 15 such items a day.

It's not just 'Fragile' that means little, what about 'This Way Up' and arrows on packets not much bigger than a fag packet ?
