Are Early Starts Insured?

Can someone enlighten myself and other colleagues in our office.If you start before your time and are involved in an accident at work does royal mail insurance cover you,or are you leaving yourself open for a independant claim if you are the cause of the accident?

As long as you're employed by RM you'll be covered by their insurance (Employers Liability I think) but they may argue that you shouldn't have been there and try to reduce any payout..............until it happens we'll never know.

This came up at our place a while ago when we changed to 6am and some still turned in at 5am (still do)

The reply we got was that as long as your working in accordance with your employment description. I.e sorting and handling mail as apposed to painting the walls your are covered.

However as with all insurance claims if they can spot any loophole they will attempt to not pay out

That's the whole point krussel and the reason no-one can give a definitive answer to this thread.
You might be...RM might say you are but if you have an accident you won't be dealing with RM,you'll be dealing with a bunch of over paid,very experienced insurance company sharks who will tear you to shreds if your not careful.
Not for the faint-hearted unless you can afford your own sharks .

To be quite honest i couldnt care less if someone coming in before their time has an accident or not, tough! . My biggest concern would be if one of them caused ME to have an accident ....who then would take the rap for it and pay compensation to me!

If your Manager greets you by saying good morning, then you’re insured, but if he doesn’t greet you’re not covered, personally I would love it if an accident happened early in the morning before starting time so these knob heads might learn a lesson.

I was told by my H&S area rep that as long as there is a signing on sheet available you're insured.
I guess that makes a bit of sense if you have signed in.

Hehe - all of the staff who start well before their time in our office still sign in at 05:45 - so if they are not really there - they cannot really be insured can they
