I know we don't really know them on a personal level but I seem to have lost so many of them this year that it's hard not to feel sad.

Same here friend,I also have lots of older people on my duty and I always make time to have a chat.Royal Mail may not give a toss about the everyday person! Only large companies interest them!! so get to know your customers makes your day so much better..

Are they the ones who don't give you a christmas tip no matter how hard you knock on their door, we used to hve a knocker on our front door at home that was big, cast iron and had a bat on it?

I've lost 4 so far this year, each one was a blow. Been delivering to them for years. It's quite sad when you see their door open and all their belongings being taken out, then passing the empty flat every day.

I can relate to that as I lost 3 in the cold spell over the winter.

One old dear used to sit at her window and watch for me to give her a thumbs up or down depending if she had any mail. She then knew to make the trip to the door or not. This went on for years and was passed down from postie to postie

They cleared out her house into one big skip. It was sad to see all of her old wooden furniture get broken up and trashed when you know she most likely treasured it for years.

Sad walking passed it all chucked out in full view as she would have been mortified.

Who on earth started this maudlin thread for goodness sake, death is a part of life, I am going to die and so is every single poster on this forum - who cares? it is as inevitable as the sun setting tonight and rising tomorrow - for christians it is a passing on to heaven, others believe they are reincarnated as butterflies - I mean really, still whatever floats your boat - nothing quite so esoteric for me.

Locally about fifteen years ago that happened and they stopped the guys pay from the moment that he died!
