Does anyone else regularly have to leave dockets for them? There's one guy on my delivery who hasn't been in on at least three occasions to sign for an Amazon special delivery.

I find it rather amusing that people are basically throwing £7/8 (or however much the delivery charge is) down the drain when they could get it sent out first-class at a much lower price!

I have one and the count is 6 so far and they went ape I would not give them to a neighbour.

BTW is not £8 its a free trial and after that £49 a year - Amazon market it as Amazon Prime.

Isn't there a a thing where they pay £50 a year for postage. Think that may be just first class delivery though.

Maybe, the item is worth a lot of money and it's not so much the next day delivery part, more the security of it being kept separate and tracked every step of the way.

The Amazon Prime includes free one-day delivery though they tend to use CityLink for that. Anyone know what determines whether they use us (Specials) or CityLink?

On a related note, anyone else find that the Amazon bar codes don't scan too well a lot of the time?

Queried this with one of my customers who gets fecking specials practically every day.
Apparently if they pay a premium every year they get whatever they order sent out as a special.

Never mind scanning, they are a pig to unpeel and hard to read if you have to write the number down.

I had this problem with a couple of custumers. Who have Amazon everyday ! Get them to write a letter saying postie can sign for packet. Put it in a safe place. As long as you have the letter in your duty log book you are safe .

There's a special at the mo (and recurring, occasionally...) where you can get a free months trial of Amazon Prime, which gives you free next-day. I used it for a month, and still missed most of my packets. :)

Well I am sorry to say it is not the recipient who pays for the service but the sender and it is they who require confirmation of receipt and therefore no item should be left without the signature of the recipient regardless of having a letter from them. You are doing wrong, although unintentionally, by not maintaining the contract between the sender and Royal Mail for a Special Delivery item.

Surely any letter of authority like this should be taken in by the intended recipient in person and handed to staff at customer services, who will have this information on offical walk records?

It is not the recipients authority you need but the senders. If a problem occurs that authority holds no sway whatsoever because it does not fulfil the contract between RM and the sender.

Also 2 months ago there was a national directive which said that such letters were no longer allowed and must be disregarded from now on, even existing local agreements were to be disregarded for specials and recorded signed for!
