Union Reps, And Accountability ?

Ive just replied to a post regards a member being stitched up by a union rep. This seems to be an ongoing problem, whereby reps are making deals with DOMS behind the backs of the members. These deals nearly always keep things sweet for the rep. When these things come to light, the advice on here always seems to be, to oust him ..... but its usually hard to find someone willing to take over. But surely if a rep is acting in such an autonomous way, if found to have made deals without members consent, is there a process whereby they`re just banned from being a rep.???????

The branch committtee can suspend the reps credentials if they feel there is a valid reason and refer the rep to the National Discipline Committee who have the authority to remove credentials.

Or you could put in a vote of no confidence in the Rep. But you'd need to make sure that there's someone willing to stand against him/her.

i can think of two reps in our office who are next to usless

I think most branches should have some sort of check in there, like the one my branch operates in that ALL AGREEMENTS HAVE TO BE VETTED BY THE BRANCH COMMITTEE. This should put in some safeguards for everyone and not give one rogue rep the opportunity to agree something with far reaching implecations for other units or indeed other functions.

Too many poeple moan about the reps doing this or the reps doing that, why not get involved.

Unity is still strength and in the months to come we need to be all singing of the same hymnsheet.

Thats all very well saying that but when we try and build some unit in Belfast DO it is always being undermined by the 'union officials' in our office. For instance it doesnt help when a union rep and his mate are on best friend terms with the managers going out for drinks with each other at the end of the week and giving gifts to the managers
