Not allowed to cancel leave!

I asked my dom today if i could cancel next wed and thurs off as i no longer need those days, i have fri and sat booked off aswell. He turned round and said once ive booked leave i cant cancel it and cant have just fri and sat off all the time.
I said that i thought it would mean everyone got out of lapsing if i cancelled my days off but he just said no we have to lapse we need to be lapsing even more duties!
I got round it by saying my work mate will have my wed and thurs instead and that was ok, but i went and spoke to my union rep anyway to find out what the score was regarding cancelling leave and he said if i'd booked it then i'm allowed to cancel it otherwise its forced leave, which isn't allowed.
Anyone had similar problems?

Yeah i was off sick for 3 mths came back to work and the following week was my hols asked if i could defer them to a later date as 1) not 100% fit to go away 2) i'd spent 3mths looking at my walls. was told NO your holidays are as booked!! but if he needed me or anyone else for that matter he wouldn't be too slow to ask do you want to work your hols!!

Thats the irony of it a month or so back my manager asked me if i wanted to cancel my days and come in as we were short staffed

your lucky to get your holiday ,as most of our depot had carried over up to 2 weeks from last year as there was no way to take them and all this years are fully booked ,so no way of taking them again ,and they are building up with the days owed from this years bank hols on restdays etc, i offered to take a week any time just to use them up and was told no vacancies so no chance this year,

Still be OK when all these extra weeks open up under the new Deal (FAT CHANCE )

I carried 14 days over but I will be taking them this year, they can't stop you taking them if you really want to use them up.

We are only allowed to carry 5 days over! More irony today...dom asks if i want to cancel my friday off too..alright when it suits him.
