Lapsing and D2D from next week in our DO

Right have seen a few posts on here asking how this is going to work, well we had our meeting with our dom today and have agreed a way forward for our office which "should" work until the full revisions have been completed

the way lapsing currently work at our office (you may not agree with it, our office does and we are happy with the system) every thursday DOM meets with Rep and discusses following weeks duties, they look at the traffic for the previous couple of weeks and using their best judgement agree on if there is possible oppertunites to lapse in the coming week(they have both been around a bit so both generally know whats going to hit the next week, sky mags bt bills etc) both the dom and rep have previously agreed an acceptable indoor workload which will allow lapsing, in our office approx 12k items(we are a small do) so if someone goes sick, the mail arriving at the do is assessed (visually not with the crap figures from the MC) less than 12k items then Lapsing is done, if there appears to be more than 12k items, the DOM will then attempt to get someone to cover on OT, starting with people in do first and then calling people who have made it know previously they will accept a short notice phone call

DOM has stated quite clearly that he knows exactly how many d2d are arriving the next week in advance ie 18k last week, he is simply going to divide this by 6 and reduce it from the agreed indoor workload 18/6=3k 12k-3k=9k so basically any day when we are going to get more than 9k items we wont be lapsing, our average mail varies from 7k on a saturday to 14k some fridays, he has also said he will probably get a little bit of flack but can accept that until someone gets their fingers out of their ass and get our office put through the revison

dont know how many other doms would accept that but we think it will work for us

I know it's a small office so it may not apply.
But what happens when some walks get 4 D2D and others get none but you are still under your 9k.
Will some lapse and others not.
And of course the opposite could occur where you are over your 9k but some have NO D2D.
Some moaning and bitching ahead maybe.
And of course on a really busy day you will still have to find the time to do 4 D2D from somewhere.

Sounds sensible. Alas. we had a DOM of similar ilk. He used to go to managers meetings and actually answer back to the area manager, about unrealistic workloads. Needless to say, he was moved sideways eventually.

Your DOM sounds a bit sensible.It depends on how sensible he is.If your members have admitted they have the capacity on certain days you are halfway there.The trouble is the lapsing SHOULD stop now.Members should be honest with themselves on 2 issues :

Early finishes should be declared by members and stop sneaking around.You all are being monitored anyway if you didn't know it already,(especially on Saturdays!! Beware!!)

Weight on shoulder should be minimised as soon as possible,paving the way for your revisions,(this means as minimal as possible).More times drops etc.Who cares about working your time.Your DSM will always agree with low sick levels.Any manager worth their salt,(and by the previous post there are some!),would agree with you.

In the past you would of been accused of "going slow".Take that argument away from a "I want to finish early" and "I did not become a manager for all this hassle" type Lino and inform him what has been agreed.
No weight on shoulder and working all hours paid and using the tools for the job.

Inform him that some postal services have long delivery spans,use tools for the job and have a very low sickness level.

Inform him that HQ and his manager,(senior) meet every day with ACAS and discuss management who bully.Inform him that this unlimited D2D agreement will test his ability to "trust" and "build relationships" as will all of us.Is he up to it?

Inform him that you reguarly keep the rep/area rep/divisional upto date with developments of the new national agreement.

Just had another 5 walks lasped. That now makes 13 in total. Lapsed everyday wiyhout fail no matter how busy it is. Rumoured another 6 to 8 going as well.

There is never ever going to be totally perfect solutions for any offices if you want to find problems that may arise you can in anything.
We all know people who will twist on 21 the thing is to agree a way which is acceptable to the majority FT & PT and make it work for the benefit off all.

I agree gb93 and it is important that you are as aware as possible of any problems that may arise so that an immediate and mutually beneficial solution can be found in the shortest time possible.

Maybe every unit rep should be given this website adress to use as a training aid or source of help.That way they would know of every little problem that may occur for every deal reached
